Welcome to Teyvat - a vast magical world of adventure.
It's time. For the sake of its future, Liyue must face unrest and a trial from the divine.

The Rite of Descension goes horribly awry, plunging the bustling harbour city into unrest and apprehension. You, Traveler, already know of the plan - but the people don't, and a good portion of them are unable to envision a world without their god. However, there are also those in Liyue who see this as an opportunity to show mortal strength. Give them your support, and the city will realize that they can move forward into the era of humanity.

While the Liyue Qixing scramble to investigate Rex Lapis' assassination, the funerary rites still have to be prepared. For this purpose Wangsheng Funeral Parlour is seeking the help of Travelers and locals alike - ritual implements, flowers, and peripherals all have to be gathered for the ceremony, and the Lord of Geo would expect only the best materials to be used. As for who's footing the bill... well, it's a good thing that you've got divine backing this time.

For those who mingle with the Fatui, they would find out that the Snezhayan 'diplomats' have begun to make a move on Guyun Stone Forest. The islands are a place where the remains of old gods have come to rest, and they are under the order of the Cryo Archon to unseal a demon god from where it had been pinned beneath the waves. As for how... it's a closely guarded secret, but travelers would be told that it is a blessing from the Tsaritsa that allows them to do so. There's no way for you to prevent it, only to prepare for battle when the inevitable comes. Such is the rules in a chess game that pits gods against each other, and against Celestia.

State of the World

The majority of activities for the first two weeks of July are set in Liyue and surrounding areas to gather rare historic materials for a god's funeral. Each of the special items needed for the Rite of Parting require hard work to be obtained. Characters will also be forewarned that they will need to face the Lord of the Vortex, Osial, very soon. Forneus' intention is for humanity to triumph against the god by joining forces with the Adepti and fighting together. As for what happens to Osial - should it be defeated, Forneus will ensure that it will never rise to menace Liyue again by erasing it from existence.

[Why is Zhongli around less? It's a mystery, and Hu Tao isn't going to spend too much time thinking about the reason. She trusts him, if nothing else.]

[Forneus, though, is a much more unknown entity. He's also right next door, and she's bored. Enter one 'Funeral Parlor Director.']

Hey, Forneus! Whatcha up to?

[ Forneus' office looks like it was lifted out of a 22nd century home. There are a plethora of screens displaying mysterious symbols, as well as a fully functional living room and kitchen. He seems to be looking at one of the screens when Hu Tao comes in. ]

Hello, hello. Welcome to my humble office. [ the turns away from the screen to address her. ] I'm just checking some statistics.

[Hu Tao has never seen a 22nd century home before, but she doesn't look phased. She does look curious, peering over Forneus' shoulder to see what he's looking at on his screen.]

Huh. You know, I've always wandered what gods did all day. Never thought I'd see one set up shop in the Funeral Parlor. I wonder if I can use this as a selling point in the future.

[ Forneus chuckles. ]

Well, I won't be here forever. Sorry. As for what I do all day... I maintain the flow of time in this world.

Tic-toc goes the clock. As time marches forward, its overseer keeps a watchful eye.

[It’s not really a conversation with Hu Tao without spoken word poetry, is it?]

Y’know, I can kind of relate.

Oh? Relate how?

[ Forneus raises an eyebrow. ]

Aiya, being a secret protector of Liyue, of course! You may not know this, but the Wangsheng funeral parlor exists to guard the boundary of the living and the dead.

[He is a god. He probably does this.]

[ Forneus smiles, a mischevious glint in his eye. ]

Have you ever thought much about other worlds? About the infinite possibilities that exist out there?

Huh? Whaddya mean? Of course there are other worlds out there.

[She says extremely casually, as if it’s the most obvious thing in Teyvat.]

But my job isn’t to protect other worlds, my job is to protect the boundary here.

Teyvat could have been different. A world not split into seven pieces, a world full of fluid change.

[ Forneus smiles, then his expression turns sober again. ]

Each time Celestia decrees their punishment, thousands of souls flood the river of memory and into the other side. Their screams and regrets take centuries to fully dissipate.

[Hu Tao rarely stops, but she certainly gives pause at Forneus’ statement. She can see it in his eyes——he’s not lying.]

[As an undertaker, she has a complicated relationship with death. Death is natural, and it’s important to honor the balance between it and life. The gods above it were mysterious beings, but they were fair.]

[At least, that was how she’d always viewed it.]

Seasons change, and time marches on. Each one of us destined to depart, we fight to fill our days with meaning. So long as we hold no regret, we shall pass on smoothly.

[Hu Tao shakes her head.]

Though, this does leave me in a predicament.

Is it truly a worthy death if it is decreed by the gods?

[ He's trying to nudge her gently to come to that conclusion. The spark of rebellion... ]
