Welcome to Teyvat - a vast magical world of adventure.
Happy new year....! In Teyvat, that is. It is now January ingame, and Liyue's people go about their disaster recovery efforts with more vigour than before. After all, Liyue's biggest festival is slated to occur in the latter half of the month - the Lantern Rite!

The Rite of Parting - Rex Lapis' funeral - passes without much incident, and Liyue collectively breathes a sigh of relief. With the Fatui being chased out of the yard, it seems that peace will finally return to the harbour city as they rebuild from the storm. You'll also get to watch three million Mora's worth of incense go up in smoke, so there's that.

Eager to focus on the future, Liyue folk have begun discussing the upcoming festival. The Lantern Rite commemorates hope for a new beginning and continued prosperity, and the construction of the festival centerpiece is currently underway. This year's Mingxiao Lantern will soar into the sky amidst thousands of smaller lanterns, and it will take the shape of a fallen Adeptus to commemorate the Adepti's contribution to Liyue's lasting peace.

Unfortunately, you're not quite out of the frying pan yet. With the Fatui gone from Liyue, the Ministry of Civil Affairs turn their attention to solving another issue that has cropped up after Osial's revival and subsequent defeat. Quite a few miners have gone missing from the Chasm, and the likelihood of finding them will only grow slimmer as the days go by. Both the Millelith and the Adventurers' Guild have pitched in to search for the kidnapped people. All clues lead to Nantianmen - and it's just your luck that Geovishaps and their hatchlings have come out of hibernation at around the same time. These lizard-like beings have shells of solid rock, and they seem especially agitated at having their territory invaded. Solving the mystery of the missing miners will take more than just a day's work.

State of the World

With the Lantern Rite set to open on January 21st, all of Liyue have come to visit the harbour to set up their stalls and pitch in to craft the Mingxiao Lantern. Hopefully the miners are found before the festival begins - the Lantern Rite is a festival of reunions, after all. Not to mention the Geovishaps' increased activity will inadvertently lead to them burrowing around in the rocky mountains. There's a small, but non-zero chance of them hitting an ancient seal somewhere and unleashing a buried threat.

Unless... that was their intention all along?

[He is absolutely still in the tree, because he doesn't know how to use the Vision and his powers are currently locked away.

Also he panicked, and he doesn't see a reason to get down when someone else is handling the situation.

[ Louis is a little taken aback by that language, though he doesn't show it. He disperses his armoured claw and puts away his sword before he returns to proper conversation. ]

You said you didn't know how to fight it. You should have a Vision on you.

[ Louis' own Geo Vision is in plain sight. It's smaller than most Visions, owning to how he's wearing it as a necklace. ]

Yeah, the purple thing. Forneus didn't bother to tell me how to use it, though.

It's intended to be instinctive. If you used magic before, it flows the same way.

[ That's what Forneus said, at least. Louis had abilities of his own, though they were not magical. ]

Are we counting demonic energy as magic? Because I don't count that as magic.

I suppose it does count as magic.

[ It certainly sounds like magic to him. ]

[He is pretty sure he knows a witch who'd disagree but then again, he never asked how Etta learned her shit.

August finally gets on the ground, dusting himself off.]

Made of, I'm not so sure. But it was aligned to the Geo element, yes.

[ Thus its sturdy defenses. Louis struggled to find a way to damage them with his blade until he found out that blunt force had a better effect. ]

That sounds like it's made of rock to me.

[Just saying.]

And you just. Sliced that bitch in two?

Well, not in two per se. I did enough damage to dissuade it from coming back.

[ And that's what matters, at least to him. ]

Close enough. Either way, extremely jealous. How'd you do it?

I imbued my hand with Geo energy so that it would absorb the shock of punching it.

[ He demonstrates that again. The crystallized amber appears to take the form of a claw. ]

Okay, that's cool. [A beat.] Can you do that sorta thing all the time or, like, what?

No, it's granted by the Vision.

[ He wouldn't tell a stranger about his Blood Veil. Not that it worked here. ]

You should try using your Vision too. It's quite useful.

[ Louis is sure he wouldn't pass out trying to tap into a Vision, but he's not going to argue. ]

Yeah, how do you get a hold of him exactly? The last thing I tried was a full on summoning, and I got the wrong Forneus.

There's a door to his office next to Wangsheng Funeral Parlour. Only people like us can see it.

[A long, long pause.]

[ .... what? ]

He kind of doesn't want to ask what's happening here. ]

Alright, [ he says carefully, and then he starts to walk back to Liyue Harbour. It's a while before they can get there, so August can ask him questions if he wants to...? ]

Eventually August will realize he probably unsettled the guy, at least?]

Louis. [ But like, pronounced the French way. ] Nice to meet you.

[ He eyes Julian for a bit. So August has a pet that's smarter than the average bird. That's interesting... it didn't seem out of place in a magical world like Teyvat. ]

[Julian notices Louis eyeing him and caws.]

He's not going to make you into a pillow, Julian. Calm down.
