August Mingle
Welcome to Teyvat - a vast magical world of adventure.

Happy new year....! In Teyvat, that is. It is now January ingame, and Liyue's people go about their disaster recovery efforts with more vigour than before. After all, Liyue's biggest festival is slated to occur in the latter half of the month - the Lantern Rite!

The Rite of Parting - Rex Lapis' funeral - passes without much incident, and Liyue collectively breathes a sigh of relief. With the Fatui being chased out of the yard, it seems that peace will finally return to the harbour city as they rebuild from the storm. You'll also get to watch three million Mora's worth of incense go up in smoke, so there's that.

Eager to focus on the future, Liyue folk have begun discussing the upcoming festival. The Lantern Rite commemorates hope for a new beginning and continued prosperity, and the construction of the festival centerpiece is currently underway. This year's Mingxiao Lantern will soar into the sky amidst thousands of smaller lanterns, and it will take the shape of a fallen Adeptus to commemorate the Adepti's contribution to Liyue's lasting peace.

Unfortunately, you're not quite out of the frying pan yet. With the Fatui gone from Liyue, the Ministry of Civil Affairs turn their attention to solving another issue that has cropped up after Osial's revival and subsequent defeat. Quite a few miners have gone missing from the Chasm, and the likelihood of finding them will only grow slimmer as the days go by. Both the Millelith and the Adventurers' Guild have pitched in to search for the kidnapped people. All clues lead to Nantianmen - and it's just your luck that Geovishaps and their hatchlings have come out of hibernation at around the same time. These lizard-like beings have shells of solid rock, and they seem especially agitated at having their territory invaded. Solving the mystery of the missing miners will take more than just a day's work.

State of the World

With the Lantern Rite set to open on January 21st, all of Liyue have come to visit the harbour to set up their stalls and pitch in to craft the Mingxiao Lantern. Hopefully the miners are found before the festival begins - the Lantern Rite is a festival of reunions, after all. Not to mention the Geovishaps' increased activity will inadvertently lead to them burrowing around in the rocky mountains. There's a small, but non-zero chance of them hitting an ancient seal somewhere and unleashing a buried threat.

Unless... that was their intention all along?

Please direct all questions to August's OOC post!

[...Buh?

Rean puts down his own lantern, looking at Sooga like a deer in headlights.]

...Uh. Which... form... do I know you in, then...?

[Please, Sooga. He is just a simple weeb. So, so very simple.]

[She gives Rean a look of resigned disappointment, then briefly abandons her lantern-making to lift her bangs and fully show the eye tattoo on her forehead. Her tone of voice lands somewhere around weary patience.]

Consider: Who does this eye remind you of?

...Oh! The really tall guy with the mask? Sooga, right?

[Rean rubs the back of his head, embarrassed.]

Sorry... I had absolutely no idea you were capable of something like this.

[...]

What's with, um... this particular choice of form... though?

[Sooga nods.]

To your credit, that's part of the point. Disguises work best when nobody thinks it's a possibility, much less how far it might go.

As for this form, I just wanted some time not getting gawked at for my height or mask, and borrowing a Sheikah's appearance felt less like hiding due to our shared ancestry.

[A sort of lopsided half-smile of dry amusement that looks odd on her face in a way that suggests it's pure Sooga is given.]

...And it would annoy Impa if she knew one of her sworn enemies were using her face like a festival mask.

...True enough. If everyone just knows it's you, it's hardly a disguise. More like a... really effective costume, I guess.

[But as for Sooga's explanation, Rean looks thoughtful.]

Ah... I see. I guess I never really considered what it must be like with your build... I know some of my friends who are smaller struggle, [Although, being somewhat tall, Rean is of course blind to how much,] but I never really thought about the other direction.

[The struggle of doorways is just now dawning on him. Poor Sooga.]

Do people bother you about the mask, though? I mean... I can't say it's something I necessarily understand, but if it's a part of your culture or even just important to you in general...

I guess we're all pretty strange to the general populace. But for us outlanders, everything we're encountering is new and strange. I don't see the point in gawking over a mask, of all things.

[But as for that last bit... okay, that earns a smile, too.]

...Yeah, I bet that would drive her nuts. I think that would annoy just about anyone if you're going to describe it like that, sworn enemy or not.
