Welcome to Teyvat - a vast magical world of adventure.
Happy new year....! In Teyvat, that is. It is now January ingame, and Liyue's people go about their disaster recovery efforts with more vigour than before. After all, Liyue's biggest festival is slated to occur in the latter half of the month - the Lantern Rite!

The Rite of Parting - Rex Lapis' funeral - passes without much incident, and Liyue collectively breathes a sigh of relief. With the Fatui being chased out of the yard, it seems that peace will finally return to the harbour city as they rebuild from the storm. You'll also get to watch three million Mora's worth of incense go up in smoke, so there's that.

Eager to focus on the future, Liyue folk have begun discussing the upcoming festival. The Lantern Rite commemorates hope for a new beginning and continued prosperity, and the construction of the festival centerpiece is currently underway. This year's Mingxiao Lantern will soar into the sky amidst thousands of smaller lanterns, and it will take the shape of a fallen Adeptus to commemorate the Adepti's contribution to Liyue's lasting peace.

Unfortunately, you're not quite out of the frying pan yet. With the Fatui gone from Liyue, the Ministry of Civil Affairs turn their attention to solving another issue that has cropped up after Osial's revival and subsequent defeat. Quite a few miners have gone missing from the Chasm, and the likelihood of finding them will only grow slimmer as the days go by. Both the Millelith and the Adventurers' Guild have pitched in to search for the kidnapped people. All clues lead to Nantianmen - and it's just your luck that Geovishaps and their hatchlings have come out of hibernation at around the same time. These lizard-like beings have shells of solid rock, and they seem especially agitated at having their territory invaded. Solving the mystery of the missing miners will take more than just a day's work.

State of the World

With the Lantern Rite set to open on January 21st, all of Liyue have come to visit the harbour to set up their stalls and pitch in to craft the Mingxiao Lantern. Hopefully the miners are found before the festival begins - the Lantern Rite is a festival of reunions, after all. Not to mention the Geovishaps' increased activity will inadvertently lead to them burrowing around in the rocky mountains. There's a small, but non-zero chance of them hitting an ancient seal somewhere and unleashing a buried threat.

Unless... that was their intention all along?

[ First she bows down a little because she's just trying to be polite. ]

I'm inexperienced with magic so you will have to excuse me.

[ With her Electro vision she summons a blade of thunder and uses it to slash at the Geovishap. ]

[Well, it works since the vishap just basically disintegrates when Susato slices it.

August and Julian just stare at where the vishap was before August starts to scramble down.]

Huh. Would not have though thunder'd work on a giant spinning rock, but there we go.

Of course it will work! It's magic. You just need to have faith in it.

[ She nods and smiles but it looks like there might be other monsters lurking around the corner. ]

Which kind of vision do you have August? I believe mine was just...Electro.

The purple one, which I'm gonna guess is Electro? Unless there's a Spooky Demon Vision, maybe.

Spooky demons? Where????

[ She actually looks a little frightened at the idea of spooky demons. ]

The thought of meeting a real demon sends a chill down my spine, but yes. The purple one is Electro.

[A long, long pause.

Right, people are usually scared of demons. Maybe don't mention that one again.]

Uh, if any show up, just point 'em in my direction. They won't be a problem. Anyway, yeah. Thunderbolts and lightning, very very frightening, all that jazz.

...Understood!! I'll keep my eyes peeled and be alert!!

[ Susato just seems more aware of her surroundings but she doesn't look too bothered by the mention of demons anymore. She does recall seeing old ancient records of oni in some tomes but she would have never figured they might be real. ]

You may find it very shocking! We're in for a real storm.

[ She really can't stop with these puns. ]

[Okay, that makes him chuckle.]

[Julian, apparently, does not like puns. He's sat on August's head and just. Pecked him. To Susato:]

Hey, d'you want a feather pillow?

A feather pillow is...a luxury for aristocracy! I would have to politely refuse such an offer.

[ Oh it's really cute that August chuckled a little before. She never expected that to happen. ]

Are you feeling okay? That peck looked quite painful.

[???? Aristocracy what.]

Yeah, I'll be fine. It's not the first time Julian's pecked me and it won't be the last. He thinks it keeps me in line.

[ In Susato's world only the fancy nobles and the wealthy can afford to have feathered pillows and items of considerable value. ]

Poor you. I can only hope that he pecks at you less often. I wouldn't appreciate getting pecked in the face, that's for sure.

Eh, you get used to it. At least he stopped going for the eyes early on.

I believe Julian may need a scolding. It's not right to go for the head.

If you must peck a man then...go for the chest and attack at the front.

[ It sounds more like she's getting different ideas of how the pecking should go. Help]

I simply believe he should just attack up front...with honor! Pecking from anywhere is highly frowned upon and lacking in dignity.

[That last bit is said glaring at his bird, who is ignoring him. Why thumbs matter, who knows, but it's clear that it's just a threat August makes for some reason.]

Is there a particular reason why you mentioned having thumbs? Julian could still peck at your hands.

[ Wait. Perhaps this is what August meant by her giving him ideas? Just naming places that he could attack? ]

Oh..! Next time I'll be more careful and not encourage this behavior.
