Welcome to Teyvat - a vast magical world of adventure.
Happy new year....! In Teyvat, that is. It is now January ingame, and Liyue's people go about their disaster recovery efforts with more vigour than before. After all, Liyue's biggest festival is slated to occur in the latter half of the month - the Lantern Rite!

The Rite of Parting - Rex Lapis' funeral - passes without much incident, and Liyue collectively breathes a sigh of relief. With the Fatui being chased out of the yard, it seems that peace will finally return to the harbour city as they rebuild from the storm. You'll also get to watch three million Mora's worth of incense go up in smoke, so there's that.

Eager to focus on the future, Liyue folk have begun discussing the upcoming festival. The Lantern Rite commemorates hope for a new beginning and continued prosperity, and the construction of the festival centerpiece is currently underway. This year's Mingxiao Lantern will soar into the sky amidst thousands of smaller lanterns, and it will take the shape of a fallen Adeptus to commemorate the Adepti's contribution to Liyue's lasting peace.

Unfortunately, you're not quite out of the frying pan yet. With the Fatui gone from Liyue, the Ministry of Civil Affairs turn their attention to solving another issue that has cropped up after Osial's revival and subsequent defeat. Quite a few miners have gone missing from the Chasm, and the likelihood of finding them will only grow slimmer as the days go by. Both the Millelith and the Adventurers' Guild have pitched in to search for the kidnapped people. All clues lead to Nantianmen - and it's just your luck that Geovishaps and their hatchlings have come out of hibernation at around the same time. These lizard-like beings have shells of solid rock, and they seem especially agitated at having their territory invaded. Solving the mystery of the missing miners will take more than just a day's work.

State of the World

With the Lantern Rite set to open on January 21st, all of Liyue have come to visit the harbour to set up their stalls and pitch in to craft the Mingxiao Lantern. Hopefully the miners are found before the festival begins - the Lantern Rite is a festival of reunions, after all. Not to mention the Geovishaps' increased activity will inadvertently lead to them burrowing around in the rocky mountains. There's a small, but non-zero chance of them hitting an ancient seal somewhere and unleashing a buried threat.

Unless... that was their intention all along?

Like, once in a while. I don't think it even affects me, but sometimes I like the taste.

Not bad. Alcohol is a taste that you need to acquire. You may come to enjoy it more if you get used to it.

[ Is it time to hit the tavern????? Looks like it. ]

Drinking keeps me going these days, but that's not saying much. We all need a reason to keep moving on.

[For a moment, August considers pointing out that drinking's a terrible reason to live.

And then the moment passes, as August is fairly certain this guy has heard that all before and, what's important, does not give a single fuck.]

It's just not nearly as appealing when you're pretty sure you can't even get drunk without drinking enough to drown a fish.

[Or when you see how fucking stupid people get, but honestly it's mostly the first one.]

[ Trevor's been through many ups and downs during his life. He found his purpose and creed again only recently but sometimes it's difficult. It's easy to go back to drinking and partaking alcohol as a means of comfort. There was somebody waiting for him back at home, surely. He's got to pull himself together. With a heavy sigh he looks up.]

You've got a point. So what kind of things do you enjoy then?

[ Maybe changing to a positive tone should although the idea is still foreign to him. ]

Pretty much nothing I can do here, except sewing and tarot, probably. The place I'm from is, uh, way further ahead in the technology game.

So you've got a bunch of contraptions that are more advanced than usual. Got it.

[Trevor looks down for a moment. He doesn't really know what he's doing half the time. He's a mess. Sewing was never a skill that he picked up nor he bothered to learn. Maybe he's utterly hopeless but there's one thing he can say for certain.]

You know I lied earlier. Drinking isn't the only thing keeping me going. There's someone waiting for me back home so. I'll see this thing through. What do you plan to do?

I mean, I made a deal with Forneus and even if he says he's not a demon, I don't really feel like testing my luck, y'know?

Demons are known for deception and treachery. I would know because I hunt down monsters and slay them. As such, I believe that Forneus may not be entirely truthful to us. He might have good intentions for now but something reeks of piss and shit.

[ Trevor lets out a sigh. ]

I was never one to care for details, really. This situation is more complicated than it seems and it's fucking annoying. Testing your luck wouldn't be a good idea.

What? What do you know about demons anyway?

[ Color him curious because Trevor's actually interested in what August might know about demons. ]

Better question: how many demons have you ever actually met? Because I bet I've met more than you.

More demons than I can count. I've seen them come from the depths of hell and attack indiscriminately. Some of them are susceptible to holy water, blessed artifacts, sometimes even salt or just the light of day.

[ He has a long history with demons and vampires. Most people seem to think they only exist in books though. ]

I said met, not fight. [A beat.] And I've never met a demon who had a sun allergy.

You might be looking for the words 'Demonic Vampire'. Sunlight is their natural weakness.

[ The vampires and monsters in his world couldn't come out in broad daylight. Is it really a sun allergy though? ]

And I've spoken to some demons. Some have an utter disdain for humanity.

Well, yeah, have you met humanity? It sucks! Mostly, anyway.

In case you haven't noticed already I'm a bloody fucking human.

[ Trevor just scoffs a little. Listen, he can't disagree that humans sometimes do questionable things but he won't deny his own humanity. ]

What are you supposed to be? A savior god?

[That actually makes him laugh.]
