October Mingle
Welcome to Teyvat - a vast magical world of adventure.

The Miko of the Grand Narukami Shrine has arranged for your passage out of Ritou and into the Inazuma islands at large. The nation has been gripped by an oppressive atmosphere ever since the enactment of the Vision Hunt Decree, and only someone unyoked by the Electro Archon can hope to break this stalemate.

Konda Village sits on the outskirts of Inazuma city. A pillar of its community now seeks to move out after losing his Vision. A samurai employed by the Shogunate is being accosted of hiding rations by his neighbours, and he has no recollection of ever dealing in such matters. Forgetting something seems to be the thread that links every former Vision holder's story together, yet their tragedies differ greatly in circumstance. Is the loss of a Vision truly so profound? If so, then why did the gods deliver such a poisoned gift to their people?

A mysterious priestess approaches you with a sincere request - Kazari seeks your aid in purifying the Thunder Sakura around Inazuma, as well as the Sacred Sakura on Mount Yougou. She tells you that these trees absorb the evil from the very land, but cannot dispel it without outside intervention. Here's where you come in: you need to dispel the sealing sigils around the holy trees, so that the filth accumulated within their roots can take form and then be swiftly cut down.

The seals, the trees, and Kazari herself are relics from the olden days - the mystical Inazuma, where kitsune and tengu lived and worked alongside humans and their god. But those days have since ended, and all that is left is a stifling eternity.

State of the World

The Land of Eternity is not without failings. By pursuing 'Eternity' and closing the doors of her nation, the Raiden Shogun has only made the lives of her people more difficult. Exploring the country may give you some clues as to how you can break her enforced stasis. You must first understand the situation of the nation, and then find the natives who also wish to change their world.

A calamity? What kind?

[Look it's good to know okay. For clarification]

[ Louis takes a moment to try and imagine Jun as a wrinkled man with green hair. It doesn't work. ]

In 2057, massive thorns erupted from the ground all over the globe and devastated all major cities. Then, a type of monstrous lifeform appeared with the ability to consume inorganic matter. Most of civilization was destroyed. We call the event the Great Collapse.

[ And the life of relative peace before was called the Old World. The Great Collapse changed everything. ]

The lifeforms prevented large-scale reconstruction from happening. Normal weapons don't work on them, and so human volunteers were changed so that they could fight them on more equal footing. Eventually, most humans either died or also undertook the change to become Revenants. True human survivors are exceedingly rare.

[ He narrates this calmly, but his haunted expression says enough about his feelings on the matter. ]

[He's quiet for a moment. It sounds like Louis went through something truly hellish. Was this the fate of his Earth? Or another timeline? There are things that sound familiar and line up, but also don't at the same time. He's quiet as he thinks it through]

Hmm...that sounds awful...

[And yet even while hearing about such a horrified event, he still approaches it calmly. Seal Knights be like that. Investigating calamities are their norm.]

...If I had to guess, I'd say you're from an alternate timeline of Earth from mine. The Soul Devices I mentioned earlier is our Earth's way of combating such threats. If ours was the same Earth, I can't imagine they wouldn't be tried before changing people into Revenants...

[ Louis nods. He hadn't heard of anything supernatural in the years following the Great Collapse. Maybe Blood Gifts are partly magical in nature, but they're very different from Soul Devices. ]

That's good. [ Better that another parallel world be spared the horrors of those beasts. ] We don't know what provoked the appearance of those lifeforms, or the appearance of the thorns, but we're surviving. One day, we will find the answer.

[ It's for furthering this cause that he agreed to come here. At least his conscience is clear on that part. ]

[personal profile] whiteshroud 2021-10-21 03:43 pm (UTC)(link)
...I pray that you do. [Survive, and find answers. He's sincere about that. ] Even if it might not be my Earth, it's still Earth.

[he still cares, in other words. But since Louis opened up about his world's situation, he can be a little more forthcoming]

For us, the trigger was in 1945. An unknown event caused the barrier between our spirit realm and the human world to weaken. Since then, monsters from the spirit realm appear and drag people into the spirit realm to consume, or trigger disasters in the human world.

[Okay so maybe he left out some details here and there, but you know what that's the story as most of the Underground knows it. Far be it from him to deviate from it]

There's still a lot we don't know, and we're still trying to find a resolution to the situation. But hopefully, we can prevent an event on the scale of the Great Collapse from occurring.

[ Louis doesn't want to get too deep into this discussion, mostly because Revenants have the advantage of being almost immortal which allows them to make otherwise lethal mistakes and survive. Only through repeated sacrifice that would kill a human did they manage to scrape together a liveable world. ]

I wonder if Forneus would allow us to assist each other's worlds, once all this is over.

[ But it's just a thought. It might be years and years before his own realm reaches a conclusion, if ever. ]

Ah, we're almost there. Is that her?

[ There's a woman next to the worn-down shrine, but her back is to the two guys. ]

[Jun stops in his tracks for a moment as Louis proposes that idea, staring off for a moment as his brain reacts to that idea and all the possible implications.]

[personal profile] whiteshroud 2021-10-26 04:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[--- Yeah you know what, Louis is a nice man who doesn't need to suffer more, so he's just....going to clear this throat and proceed not to answer that idea. Time to focus on the mission!!]

Uh- it could be.

[He'll step forward and call out to her]

Excuse me, are you Kazari?
codeprometheus: (thinky)

[personal profile] codeprometheus 2021-10-29 12:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Hm. That didn't have the response he expected... well. He wouldn't dwell on it for a moment longer seeing that they have a task to do.

The woman dressed in shrine maiden clothes does turn out to be Kazari, and Louis has the vague impression that the two of them aren't the first people that she's asked for help with. She tells them about a Thunder Sakura hidden beneath a well in Konda Village. Sounds simple enough, and they are warned about the prospect of combat - much easier than talking to people.

'You must look for a warding item,' she says, and Louis has no idea what that looks like. ]

Do we need some kind of shrine ritual to find it?
whiteshroud: (jun138)

[personal profile] whiteshroud 2021-10-30 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Kazari gestures at the Sky Kitsune statue nearby, saying that the warding item is within the statue. "They say can only be removed by someone who has courage, values friendship, and who is favored by the might of Electro,", she says.

Jun's listening, and doing the math in his head. He'll go over to the statue, waiting for Louis to join him and Kazari to be out of earshot ]

Favored by Electro? If she just means the element, I could try to apply Light to see if that works. Though if she means more in a religious sense... [...]

Hey, just to check, do you know CPR?

[You know, just asking for a friend!! Not at all sorting out a back up plan if he gets zapped!]

[ Luckily for the both of them, Louis was a medical student before he died. ]

I do. And I'll be fine, no need to worry about me. [ Because you know, he's dead. A corpse can't get defibrillated. Light being able to stand in for Electro also makes sense to him. He's sure particle physics will produce at least some sort of electromotive force. ]

Shall we? [ He's trusting Kazari to not prank them or send them off without at least some measure of success probability. ]
whiteshroud: (jun109)

[personal profile] whiteshroud 2021-10-31 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, that's right. Louis is undead. Being electrocuted is less of a worry for him. That makes things a little less worrying.]

Alright.

[He holds his hand out in front of the statue, concentrating as he tries to be very precise with how he manifests the light. It comes out in electric energy, crackling and branching out like lightning would. Though notably, it's much whiter in color than the purple electro energy of Teyvat.

Whether or not the statue can discern the difference, well, they'll know soon enough]
codeprometheus: (thinky2)

[personal profile] codeprometheus 2021-10-31 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
[ Jun's Light certainly looks like electricity. Nothing happens for a few moments, and then a small duster-shaped object manifests at the foot of the kitsune statue.

"I was right. You are the destined one," says Kazari, picking up the ward and giving it to Jun. "There is a barrier within Konda Village. I would ask of you to investigate the barrier and lift it."

That sounds like what he had heard from Forneus alright. ]

We can do that, yes. [ Louis thinks he will leave the zapping to Jun and help to look around instead. ]
whiteshroud: (jun137)

[personal profile] whiteshroud 2021-10-31 04:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Well thank God that plan didn't backfire on him. Seems all they needed was just an electrical charge and not actually the Shogun's blessing. He'll take it.

Perhaps for anyone else, being referred to as the "destined one" would be something big. For Jun, it was basically another Tuesday. He takes the ward and listens to the instructions dutifully, taking care to remember the objective of the mission. Find the barrier and lift it. Simple enough. ]

Konda Village, understood. [That's the village nearby here, right? He remembered people speaking of it] Shall we be off Louis?

[ Given that the people of Teyvat can't make electricity without Visions or complicated devices, it's probably easier to attune it just to electricity. ]

We'll let you know when we're done. [ To Kazari, then: ] Yeah, let's go.

[ They'll probably walk there in silence too because what is talking?

Konda Village looks quite similar to what one would expect a village out of a medieval folk tale to look like. People are farming, kids are playing, there's a well... nothing seems out of the ordinary. ]

A barrier, huh... I don't sense any strong elemental energy above ground. [ He thinks he should be looking for a strong concentration of Electro energy. ]

[personal profile] whiteshroud 2021-10-31 03:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[They sure do walk there in silence. Not that Jun minds in the slightest.

He's scanning the village as they enter it. This is about as classic as an old small village as you can get. Nothing unusual stands out at all]

Yeah...I don't sense anything either. [But if the shrine maiden insisted] Maybe its below ground? So that way its closer to the spiri- er, leylines.
