June Mingle: Time For A Hike
Welcome to Teyvat - a vast magical world of adventure.
Finally, it's time to leave Death Mountain for warmer climates. THe Travelers will begin their journey from Mondstadt to Liyue on the first of November, after packing up and saying goodbye the Mondstadt's Adventurers' Guild. But worry not - if you ever miss the City of Wind and Song, it's possible to teleport back for a brief visit.

The Travelers will head out of Mondstadt through Stone Gate, cross Dihua Marsh and then reach the Guili Plains. You'll be camping out under the stars on some days, while getting to enjoy various roadside inns on other days - including the famed Wangshu Inn, all under Forneus' bill. But it does bring up a question: where did he get all that mora from?

Speaking of Forneus, it seems that he's too busy to accompany you on this road trip. Instead, Zhongli will serve as his stand-in. For those who do not know him well, he introduces himself as an Adeptus... and also the Geo Archon, who has enlisted your help to test his nation. What will you do?

State of the World

June will be a lighter period in the game for characters to bond with each other while traveling as a group, and later while exploring and trolling Liyue to the best of their ability. Forneus will not be available for the first two weeks as he is busy; instead Zhongli is tasked with answering questions in his place. A reference of the scenery your character might see on the way can be found in this video here! Feel free to check out Liyue's music here as well.

Yeah! I want to make ice cream, and you can make sugar with those flowers. Right?

[Why else would they call it sweet flower? Not that he knows what sugar is made from back home, either, so it could just be a dumb guess.]

Yes, you can. By collecting the nectar and bringing it to a consistent boil, you can concentrate it into a thick syrup and then solidifying it into sugar. Though, such a process would require you to tend to a kitchen fire for some time.

[ Zhongli is practically a walking encyclopaedia at this point. ]

.... I guess it's a good thing I don't have a lot to do while we're traveling.

[Ice cream is worth it.]

I think the only other thing I need is milk then.

[Or maybe it would be easier to make popsicles since he can freeze things...]

[ folds his arms thoughtfully ]

You could purchase some from inns, but that would incur extra expenses.

[ Roxas sounds like he knows how to make ice cream, so Zhongli will spare him the lecture... for now. ]

Where do they get the milk from? I don't think I've ever seen a cow here....

They do source milk from cows. However, rearing cows take considerable space and flat terrain. I could point you towards the ranches, but they tend to be quite out of the way for most travelers.

[ I'm going to assume cows exist in Teyvat so Jun doesn't have to be a vegetarian ]

[That makes.... sense? He doesn't know how cows are raised. Just that they give milk.]

Oh... maybe another time. I'd like to see a cow in the future.

[ Zhongli appears to think for a moment ]

I can arrange that when we arrive in Liyue if you wish.

[As tempting as that is, Roxas shakes his head.]

No, that's okay! I think I can see cows when I go home. We're supposed to be working here, and that sounds like it would take a while.

[pragmatism]

I see. We do have some time before we begin working. Some of the travelers have been on duty for months; and I have asked Forneus to give everyone a slightly longer break than usual.

[ Roxas came later, but people like Rose and Jun have been here for almost five months. Plus, the trauma of Death Mountain would weigh heavily on many people's minds. ]

Do you enjoy ice cream?

[missingache]

Traveling is part of a break?

[That... doesn't compute at the moment. He knows people will go to places for breaks, but not spend the entire break going somewhere. Vacations are weird.]

I love ice cream!

[pragmatism]

Yes, if you spend most of your work in one place. Experiencing new places and cultures can be a break from the usual tedium.

[ Ah, that explains why Roxas wanted to make some. However, he's not the Cryo Archon, so he can't quite help with that directly... ]

I believe there is a dessert store that serves it in Liyue. I could bring you there when we arrive.

[missingache]

Oh. I thought it was just a normal part of work. I used to work for an Organization where we had to go to different places all the time.

[That's why he's going to experiment with his own Cryo vision himself. See what works and what doesn't.

Hmmmm... that would be convenient. He could then ask the store owner about making it...]

I'd like that. Are there any desserts from there you like?

[May as well get Zhongli something for the trouble.]

For a wanderer like you, staying in one place may be the vacation instead.

[ But he wouldn't talk at length about a topic that doesn't have much relevance to Roxas' interests. ]

Liyue cuisine features many different types of desserts, each intended to complement one of the various schools of cooking. That establishment is able to serve most of the traditional dishes, including osmanthus jelly. I find its light taste preferable to other heavier foods.

[ yeah he's just old ]

[Going to a place like a beach would be a vacation. Which, there's plenty of beaches here. Roxas could probably hang out at one for a day or two.

What's an osmanthus?

[pragmatism]

[ What a good question. ]

The osmanthus is an evergreen shrub that bears fragrant golden flowers. The nectar and scent of the flowers are very pleasing. It symbolizes reunion and peaceful times. You can find cultivated osmanthus in Feiyun Slope or near Yuehai Pavilion. They usually flower in August or September, but dried osmanthus flowers are used in cuisine all year round.

[People in Teyvat seemed to like to eat flowers...]

Then... I guess I'll have to try that when we get to the dessert shop. I do like saltier things, but they don't have the ice cream I like here.

[So may as well try the other types in this world.]

[ Perhaps it's the high concentration of mana that lets plants here grow to extreme levels of sugar compared to other worlds. But that's a story for the Dendro Archon to tell, not him. ]

You refer to salt ice cream, yes?

[ A pause as he thinks. ]

I do recall it being produced in Inazuma. However, visiting that nation is extraordinarily difficult. Perhaps one living in Liyue might be able to make it.

[There is an equivalent to the ice cream he loves here??? Roxas nods.]

Yes! [Aaaaah he needs to find that person or persons who can make it and learn.] The ice cream in my world is called sea salt ice cream. It's the perfect blend between salty and sweet, and it was the color of the sea!

[pragmatism]

[ The sea, huh... ]

I see. I will search for a suitable chef once we arrive.

[ Since Forneus is footing the bill, it should be no issue. Zhongli thinks so anyway. ]

[A chef...? That's........... making him blink in confusion.]

You'd hire a chef to make an ice cream from another world?

[pragmatism]

Yes.

[ Zhongli look sat the boy with a slight tinge of confusion. Was it strange? ]

You would enjoy it, is that correct?

I would.... but to go out of the way like that for someone not from this world... I didn't expect it?
