october mid-month event

October Mid-Month Event
Welcome to Teyvat - a vast magical world of adventure.
Two weeks after the Travelers arrive in Inazuma, the conflict between the Shogunate and the Sangonomiya Resistance begin to intensify. At Forneus' behest, you venture west to survey the battlegrounds and consider your next move.

Once again, a stalemate that can only be broken from the outside. This isn't anything new now, is it?
State of the World
The Sangonomiya Resistance have declared civil war on the Shogunate after the establishment of the Vision Hunt Decree. As you travel through Inazuma, you will eventually meet them, as well as their leader. It becomes evident that the two sides are locked in equal balance, and that the civil war does nothing good for anyone... which is why the overseer of the Narukami Shrine has asked you to come. You are unbound by any destiny, and thus able to tip the scales. But to do that, you will need a complete picture of the situation, and to solve problems that no one is willing to face.
No one has seen the Shogun out in public for quite a while. It seems that only a sufficiently grave danger will provoke her from within her castle. The enemy of eternity is change, and you are just that.

Staying wary of the bird, he drops to a seat in from of August, thumbing out a handful of mora from what he has on his person.]
200. The rest when it's done.
I'll double if you're as good as you claim.

[He takes the money and starts to shuffle his cards.]
Just a three-card past present future thing, and don't get mad at me when the cards say something you don't like. They do that. Got it?
no subject
[Ideally, anyway. But his eyes flick to the bird again, and the thought of dark magic unsettles him enough to gently correct himself.]
I'll try to keep an open mind.
no subject
[He starts to deal out the cards, flipping the first one over with little preamble.
Emperor, reversed.
Daddy issues!]
...gonna go out on a limb here and say your dad or father figure? Not a good time. Like, real bad time. Not sure to what extent, but any time the Emperor shows up there is always some fun family issues in the background.
no subject
His expression tightens visibly, eyes stuck on the card of the Emperor as he thinks out his response.
It really is right on the mark for a start, huh. Maybe just terrific luck.]
Yeah. Not much to do about it now. But to say he was an asshole would be an understatement. [That's all he needs to say on the matter.]
no subject
[Next card: Ten of Swords, upright. August actually sort of winces, when the card's revealed.]
So. Things are really kinda fucked for you right now--lost someone or will be losing someone in the very near future and it hurts. A lot. Possibly dealing with a major depressive episode, if you deal with that. It might even feel like you've just been ditched, but that's not necessarily the case. It's just gonna feel like it.

The longer August goes on, the more Lutha leans into his own hand, running it across his mouth to hide his expression until he's just numbly staring a hole through the rock table like that might somehow set the table on fire.
It's fine.
He doesn't bother answering that one. But he'll at least tear his eyes off the table and back up to August, barely gesturing with a tilt of his head.
Just pull the third one on him. He doesn't need to dwell on that stab in the gut any further.]
no subject
...in what world is this guy leader material?!]
Whatever's coming next, you're gonna be in charge. Maybe just of your own life, maybe of something actually kind of big--I'unno, can't tell you that. Either way, when it happens, you'll know it, and for the love of God go into it with a plan? And back up? And don't be a sketchy fuck?
no subject
How much of that is the card and how much of that is just you being pissed off at me?
no subject
no subject
It's frightening, how thoroughly August grabbed all that from just three pictures.]
...Anything else?
no subject
[So are you gonna pay?]
no subject
[He takes another long, hard look, before carefully pulling out his supply and dropping 400 more Mora onto the table.]
Do you do this a lot, back home?
no subject
Yeah, it's like. Basically my job? There's a thing called Instagram, most people use it to post pictures and I do too, to show off the stuff I'm making, but I also use it to advertise my readings and shit. It's not paying for college or anything but it means my aunts can stop complaining about how expensive all my cloth and shit is.
no subject
Hm.]
So... what, like a town post setup or something? That's a lot to be advertising for one person.
[this hip lingo is not his style]
I wouldn't think someone would bother being a craftsman if they had connections with divination.
no subject
Okay, first. Back home, sewing clothes is a hobby. Most people just buy premade fast fashion shit and boy do I have opinions on that. It's garbage, it never fits anyone, and it's made in horrible conditions but anyway. Second, most people don't believe that what I do is real, they think all that sorta stuff is made up bullshit. The people who pay for readings do believe in it, or at least think it's cool enough to warrant paying my prices.
[Moving on.]
And Instagram is literally just meant to be a thing where people from all over the world can post pictures, but I am not gonna try and explain the internet to anyone who doesn't already know what that is.
no subject
...But what the hell kind of resources do you have that cloth can be expensive but still considered a hobby? [Are you like. Rich. You don't act rich, August.]
no subject
[So.]
no subject
[Ugh. Whatever.]
You mentioned pictures, too. Is it paintings or... [A beat, before he rummages through the inside of his shirt, pulling a worn piece of photo paper from the inner pocket.] ...is it shit like this? Is that what you're talking about?
no subject
But he does glance at the photo, nodding.]
Yeah, basically. People post all sorts of shit--selfies or food pics or outfit of the day, which is where I started.
no subject
[His mouth thins for a second, glancing at the paper in his hands with a subtle softening in his eyes.]
Guess I could see the appeal, though. Recording mundane shit.
no subject
Yeah. It can fun, too, trying out all different angles and lighting and whatever.
no subject
[He's not letting go of the paper, but he at least lowers it, enough for August to catch a glimpse of the image - a girl, maybe seven or eight, long red curly hair and bright blue eyes, up in a tree that looks almost sickly in its coloring.]
Is it magic, then, or something else?
no subject
Technology, back home, but could be magic in other places I guess. Don't ask me how it works, I'm in school for business not art.
no subject
And you're still undercharging for your readings?
Either your teacher isn't teaching you jack shit or you don't care enough to sell yourself.
