october mid-month event

October Mid-Month Event
Welcome to Teyvat - a vast magical world of adventure.

Two weeks after the Travelers arrive in Inazuma, the conflict between the Shogunate and the Sangonomiya Resistance begin to intensify. At Forneus' behest, you venture west to survey the battlegrounds and consider your next move.

Heading west from Narukami Island will bring you to Kannazuka, the location of the Mikage Furnace. This furnace uses the power of the Tatarigami to produce high-quality swords for the Shogunate. However, sabotage by members of the Resistance have led to the furnace becoming unstable. The Shogunate's soldiers and the Shrine Maidens have set up camp on the island, but the two factions cannot decide on how to address the problem. That's where you come in. Unfettered by the chains of bureaucracy, you can act as you wish. Venture into the Furnace and stabilize it before it blows the island away.

Yashiori Island lies even further west. Its position means that it is currently the middle ground where the Shogunate and the Resistance skirmish. However, the fighting has died down due to torrential rain that blankets the island, as well as the intense Electro energy within Musoujin Gorge. Once, this island was the battlefield between the Raiden Shogun and Orobashi, with the latter defeated and sealed. However, someone broke its seals during the civil war, and the lingering resentment of the Serpent has possessed soldiers on the island, turning them violent.

Once again, a stalemate that can only be broken from the outside. This isn't anything new now, is it?

State of the World

The Sangonomiya Resistance have declared civil war on the Shogunate after the establishment of the Vision Hunt Decree. As you travel through Inazuma, you will eventually meet them, as well as their leader. It becomes evident that the two sides are locked in equal balance, and that the civil war does nothing good for anyone... which is why the overseer of the Narukami Shrine has asked you to come. You are unbound by any destiny, and thus able to tip the scales. But to do that, you will need a complete picture of the situation, and to solve problems that no one is willing to face.

No one has seen the Shogun out in public for quite a while. It seems that only a sufficiently grave danger will provoke her from within her castle. The enemy of eternity is change, and you are just that.

Because nobody's perfect and I can multitask?

[Just saying.]

Just because I didn't know until you told me doesn't mean I can't realize that something is a really dumb idea.

[BRUH....]

Then why did you do it? Because your stance would leave you open to any attacks.

[personal profile] whiteshroud 2021-10-30 08:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Your stance.

How you hold yourself in a fight?
drewthetower: (Squishy Witchboy)

[personal profile] drewthetower 2021-10-30 08:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I literally just stand there and throw cards, dude.

[He's a turret, not a fighter??? Does he need a stance???]
whiteshroud: (jun66)

[personal profile] whiteshroud 2021-10-30 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
So? Opponents won't care if your weapon is unusual. They'll still attack you.

The way you hold yourself, if something got an attack on you, you'd be dead in a hit. Just like the slime.

[August decides not to point out that he knows they'll still attack him.]

Usually Alex or someone's in front, keeping them from getting to me, and I can usually kill the things before they get to me if that doesn't work.

[Or: he's literally never had to worry about it before now.

Jun is not paid enough for this.]

whiteshroud: (jun124)

[personal profile] whiteshroud 2021-10-30 09:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Not to point out the obvious, but Alex's not here.

[Just putting that out there. But really that's not his main point]

It's fine that you're new and unskilled to fighting. That's to be expected considering how things are on Earth. [Most people never have to know fighting or fending off monsters.]

But the way you act judgmental towards everyone while overlooking or dismissing your own shortcomings is .... ironic.
drewthetower: (Ah)

[personal profile] drewthetower 2021-10-30 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's almost like a switch gets flipped when Jun first mentions Alexandre and then brings up the whole dismissiveness thing he does. He just shrugs, but he seems to close in on himself a little and doesn't look at Jun, instead choosing to look for more slimes or something.

He knows it's ironic. It's easier to dismiss how much he sucks than to dwell on it, though, and he critiques like he breathes. At least he's aware of it. Mostly.]

Yeah, and? --hey, think I found the thing.

[He gestures up ahead, where he sees a trail of Electro.]
whiteshroud: (jun94)

[personal profile] whiteshroud 2021-10-31 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
...

[How August closes in on himself and acts flippant about what he said before changing the subject, it's perceived as August trying to blow him off again. The mission does matter to Jun, so when August points out the trail he does make note of it. But he's not about to let the subject change go unchallenged. ]

You act like people assume I will when they find out my affiliation.

[That's what he meant by ironic. And with that, he'll continue following the trail - this time moving at his own pace rather than keeping it slow for August's sake. ]

drewthetower: (Hm?)

[personal profile] drewthetower 2021-10-31 05:04 pm (UTC)(link)
...wha?

[August is at least used to be the slowest in a group, so it's not too hard to pick up the pace a little so Jun doesn't totally leave him behind.]

That makes no sense.
whiteshroud: (jun124)

[personal profile] whiteshroud 2021-10-31 06:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Judgmental of others without trying to understand them. Quick to preach your opinions, but never practice what you preach. I believe that's the attributes associated with the church? Not without reason, of course.

[He is all too aware of the sins of the church. Painfully aware. ]

The things you criticize are different, but it's the same attitude. It's tiring.
drewthetower: (Hm?)

[personal profile] drewthetower 2021-10-31 06:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[Oh. Yeah, August gets it now.

But also.]

Literally never been compared to the church before, that's a new one. [But. Hmph. God, is he bad at using his words. His aunts instilled a strong sense of "use your words" but boy does he suck at it.] And, uh. Like a good eighty percent of what comes out of my mouth is just bullshit, dude. I literally never shut up unless I'm really pissed. It's just...a Thing? No one ever takes me seriously back home, guess I gotta get used to people maybe taking me seriously here.
whiteshroud: (shroud - face)

[personal profile] whiteshroud 2021-10-31 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[.....

In other words, it's the "It's just a joke, dude." response. Jun's heart sinks upon hearing it. He's not really used to having conversations like this, so he doesn't know how to handle it. And with that uncertainty, doubt enters his mind. What if he was taking things too seriously? Maybe everyone else was fine with it and he was the weird one. Was it really his business how August acted?

...He sighs ]

Forget it. Let's just finish the mission.

[In the end, he gives up and retreats back to what he knows.]

[August gets the feeling there was a misunderstanding, but he's bad at clearing those up. So.]

Yeah.
whiteshroud: (jun94)

[personal profile] whiteshroud 2021-10-31 07:38 pm (UTC)(link)
[Jun meanwhile is going full into mission mode. He's silent as he continues to follow the trail. Eventually, they come across a pedestal with a glowing lopsided orb on top. Brimming with electro energy]

This is it.
drewthetower: (Default)

[personal profile] drewthetower 2021-10-31 07:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[It looks squishy. It's probably not squishy, but boy does it look squishy.

August looks to Julian, who just caws. He ain't touching it.]

Coward. [To Jun:] I'm not seeing any traps--you?
whiteshroud: (jun127)

[personal profile] whiteshroud 2021-10-31 08:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't sense any.

[If those two aren't going to grab it, he will. His gloves are insulated to work with light energy anyway so it'll PROBABLY be fine.

He reaches over and picks it up, examining it. The energy from the orb is crackling in his hand. Good thing for gloves huh]
drewthetower: (Thinking)

[personal profile] drewthetower 2021-10-31 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[...oh, yeah, those gloves are useful. Still.]

If that starts causing problems, lemme try. Maybe it won't hurt, since I've got Electro.
whiteshroud: (jun50)

[personal profile] whiteshroud 2021-11-02 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
[He considers for a moment, before giving a slight headshake]

Unfortunately, Visions don't grant immunities to their elements.[If rocks fall, Jun would still die] You'd need to learn enough control to make sure the electricity in the orb doesn't touch you, and that's a little much to ask to learn on the go.

[He doesn't mean that as an insult. It'd be a tall order for anyone to learn right away. In other words, he's trying to avoid August from getting hurt.]

My gloves are made to handle things with Light affinity, which shares a lot of similar properties. It should be alright. [...] Though, if it does manage to electrocute me, please perform CPR.

[That last part may or may not be a joke]
