[Rose’s experience with the echo means that she’s used to looking through the eyes of another. Still, this is something different. Usually, her echo visions afford her little agency, if any. Here, she has control.]

[Or at least some semblance thereof. Looking through the hood, it’s not hard to tell who’s memory she’s in. She always figured that something had happened...but if this is the sort of mission he was exposed to on the regular, she’s impressed he could stay so positive. She certainly wouldn’t be able to, if given the same set of circumstances.]

[Rose bows her (?) head low and faces the “instructor.” She’s no stranger to difficult decisions, but even this seems like something else entirely.]

So we have to kill one to save many, do we?

[Well Rose to be honest, it's because he has a secret trick. It's call severe emotional repression and detachment from a very young age. Turns out it works wonders! You know, besides the fact it causes him to be developmentally stunted and he'll need years and years of therapy to unpack everything.

The seasoned knight will turn their head to look at Rose and give a nod.]

Correct. You'll occasionally encounter situations like this when you begin your own missions. Bringing you here tonight is an opportunity to gain valuable field experience.

[In other words, this is a field trip to teach you how to murder people. Lovely!]

[Yeah, when this is over, she's going to need to have a Talk with Jun. Rose may not process her emotions in a healthy manner (or any manner), but this is too much. How long has he been carrying this? It must have affected him.]

[Rose should go along with it. But there are certain issues she has feelings on, and this happens to touch on them nicely. That poor girl, she didn't ask for this. It seems so unfair to cut her life so short.]

And what if we decide we don't want this valuable experience?

[Oh, well this is an unexpected response. They were used to these responses to the newest trainees- the ones that are quickly weeded out and sent elsewhere after their memory erased. But at this stage...most understood.

The Seal Knight doesn't mince words.]

Then you'll doom this entire village to death when the Grim Greed comes to collect her. As for the girl, she'll be sentenced to eternal damnation and forced to serve as the Grim Greed's kin in Hell.

[So you know, the consequences are real bad. And that's not even getting into what would happen to her. The instructor will follow up with more of a gentle chiding]

You're a little old for remarks like that, aren't you?

[Rose (?) frowns and bites her lip. What is Wrong with this world? Granted, Eorzea has primals and getting tempered is all but a death sentence, but this seems like something else entirely.]

I hardly think my age is the issue here.

[It’s the act itself, not to mention the age of all those involved. Perhaps if someone else were brought into this memory it would go better. Instead, Jun got Rose.]

But it hardly seems fair to have children killing children. If it truly must be done, shouldn’t it be someone more experienced?

[The seasoned knight looks at her, even with the hood, it's clear there's disapproval in Rose's posturing.]

And where would this someone more experienced be? Most Underground organizations won't take jobs like this. Worse, some might see this child as a new research subject to play with in their labs - regardless of the danger.

[Something in the memory informs Rose that what they're say is true. There were lots of organizations involved in dealing with the supernatural, but many were in it for their own gains.]

In a few years time you'll be working with the outside world, on your own. You'll likely be the only knight in your region. Just who would handle a case like this if you're find yourself unwilling? That's why you're here. To gain experience you need so you're able to do what needs to be done.

[It looks like there isn't any convincing this knight. They were committed to their cause]

Remember, the Greed don't care about what's fair.

[Rose doesn't look any happier when her 'mentor' responds. She likely knows that she's drawing ire, but she doesn't particularly care. This isn't her world; although she probably wouldn't care, even if it was.]

The Greed is the name of the force we are fighting? It certainly doesn't seem to care about what's fair, that's correct.

[She can only sigh and shake her head.]

Fine. But for what it's worth, I'm against this.

Then you can wait outside.

[The seasoned seal knight responds curtly, seeming to be only willing to tolerate so much defiance. They turn their head to address the other trainee, that'd been quietly standing by as Rose and them argued. ]

Kohinata, you'll be handling this on your own. I trust you don't have any objections?

[The other trainee gives a brief headshake. When he speaks, it's the same distorted voice that Jun used on the island when he went by Orden.]

None. I'll complete the mission as asked.

[In other words, in her defiance...Rose just handed off the job of killing a child to another child. Nicely done! ]

Jun?

[Rose mutters the name under her breath. She never had any doubt who's memory she was in--the clothing made it obvious enough--but having it confirmed seems like something else entirely.]

[She is now completely disregarding the officer, as she crosses her arms and frowns, looking pointedly in Jun's direction.]

I see. This is the kind of organization you worked for.

....

[He doesn't respond to her, not even turning his head even as she singles him out. There's a stillness in how he stands. He doesn't know what's gotten into the other trainee, but he knew all that mattered was completing the mission.

The seasoned knight too, seems to be ignoring her.]

Then let us begin.

[Jun will give the smallest of nods before he lifts his hand in a familiar gesture. There's a flash of blue light before both of them disappear with a teleportation spell into the house itself. Off to complete the mission, it seems.

From the outside, Rose will be able to pick up the sound of a large sword being drawn inside the house, before the memory abruptly cuts out- returning her to Mondstadt]

[Rose doesn’t need to think about what happens next. She doesn’t need to hear the sound of a sword being drawn to know what’s about to unfold. If one thing has been true about Jun in the time she’s known him, it’s that he’s dedicated to his job and role as a knight.]

[It doesn’t surprise her to see the memory end, nor does it surprise her to find herself back in Mondstadt. Once she does, she immediately goes looking for the person responsible for the memory—and she won’t rest until she finds him.]

[Jun isn't aware of the memory that Rose saw, so he's neither hiding or seeking her out. In fact he can be found in one of the parks of Mondstadt, reading an adventure novel he found in the library and enjoying his free afternoon without a care in the world. ]

[Jun is absolutely not aware of the memory Rose saw, but it doesn't take her long to find him. Nor is it going to take any impressive powers of deduction to realize that something is Up with Rose.]

[When she approaches him in the library, her arms are crossed and she's frowning. But there's another look in her eyes; one of deep concern, like she now knows more about Jun than she did before.]

Jun.

[He looks up as he hears someone approaching him, seeing Rose. He does notice that something is up with her facial expression, but well. He's dumb, so he has no inclination to why she's looking at him like that]

Rose? Is something wrong?

[Does he need to stab something]

[Is something wrong? Is something wrong?]

[Yes, and he doesn't have any idea what it is.]

I saw it. The test.

[She frowns. It's not something she should be so tactless about, but there's no value in beating around the bush, either.]

You should have told me. Or someone.

Huh?

[He looks...just confused. Not surprised, just perplexed.]

Are you talking about a memory? [He didn't recall taking any tests here, so it had to be that. But also...it doesn't narrow it down, even if it does make him feel a twinge of nervousness.

Which test do you mean?

[Well, this is a little more than she expected. Sometimes she forgets that most people aren't gifted with the ability to see the memories of other people.]

This place. It has the ability to show others memories from our past. From home.

[Should she say more? Probably. Will she? No.]

I know about that. I've seen other's memories.

[So, no explanation needed there.]

But which test are you talking about? I've taken several.

The one where you became a knight.

[...Oh, shit. Not that one. His eyes widen. ]

[That'd be real bad if that one got seen. Ironically......he's thinking of a different memory.]

[Rose shakes her head.]

Perhaps? It was the one with the girl.

Ok now he's confused again]

I don't...think there was a girl there.

You might be thinking of something else? What was going on?

[Oh...that. Now he knows what she's talking about. It's better than what he originally thought she had seen, but he can't say it's much better. He has a look of recognition before he glances away]

... My possession case training. [In other words, yeah. He remembers.] It wasn't how I became a knight. It was a field exercise to get me used to...handling possession cases.

I'm sorry you had to experience that.

[Rose does not look happy. Somehow, she knew this would be Jun’s response.]

I don’t think I’m the one you need to be concerned with.

[It wasn’t a happy memory, but it certainly wasn’t the worst thing she’d experienced. Not by a long shot.]

I’m worried about you. Have you ever talked to anyone about this?
