MAY MINGLE

May Mingle: Entombed City
Welcome to Teyvat - a vast magical world of adventure.
Everyone's hard work resulted in the gate to upper Dragonspine opening. These ruins have not been traversed in years, if not centuries - everything within has been lost to time and living memory. An entire city has been buried in the snow.

Traces of technology can be found in the city - golden boxes that contain crystals capable of recording and playing back holograms. One of the boxes introduces this place as Vindagnyr; a land once full of greenery and life. Just what happened to these people? What caused the eternal winter?

The city's inhabitants worshipped Celestia. Why then were they left to die?
State of the World
On October 1st, the entombed city of Vindagnyr becomes open for exploration. Travelers can choose to look for clues or try to scavenge the city for ancient materials or tools. Recording boxes all around the city tell stories of Vindagnyr's greener past, and of the days when winter suddenly arrived. This is the cruelty of Celestia that Forneus wished you to see.
For all questions regarding May's mingle and events, please head over to our OOC post.

I was brought to this world to help save it, and thus have effectively been hired as an outside contractor. To maintain this as a professional relationship, I require payment for my services. I intended to bring this matter to you sooner, but between calculating the exchange rate between rupees and mora and the number and scope of the non-standard tasks this job is likely to require, it took more time than expected.
[He pulls out an itemized list for Forneus to take, gaze never wavering once. To spare the details, it comes out to Kinda A Lot of mora.]
no subject
Sure.
[ He reads over the list for a couple of seconds before manifesting a bag of Mora in an open hand, offering it to the ninja. It will cover his itemized bill and not a bit less. ]

Sooga gives a nod and takes the money, storing it away... somewhere.]
Thank you. Now, regarding the second matter...
[He crosses his arms, not actually so much to look stern as it is a position he finds more comfortable than just letting them dangle if he's not going to use them for anything.]
It's come to our attention that you believe the path to victory is deicide, and have included yourself. Why?

[ He does not seem perturbed - instead satisfied, even. ]
The nature of gods on Teyvat is that they must embody an aspect, or multiple aspects. This aspect is the key to their existence and their power. They have the utmost control over said aspect, and can never stop representing it. To go against one's aspect is to face oblivion. Aspects can be material, such as the seven elements, or metaphorical, such as freedom, contracts, wisdom, war, and love. In this way gods are different from mortals; the moment they accept their aspect is the moment they become transcendent.
[ He's more serious now, a difference from the casualness that he often shows ]
What happens when gods disagree and decide to wage war? The very land is razed by their power, and mortals die by the thousands as pawns. To curb a rogue god requires the intervention of other gods. Thus did the first spark of the Archon Wars come to be, and Teyvat thus suffered more than two thousand years in turmoil. The end of war was only achieved when most deities were cannibalized by the strongest few. And these few gods that remained were then approved by Celestia to act as their regents on the earth.
To have their very fates dictated by the gods with no means of changing them, to live their lives believing that they had a chance at gaining greater power or knowledge yet be fated to fail until death... it is not appropriate. I despise the way of Celestia, to rule from their lofty seat in the sky while condemning mortals to untold suffering. If there is ever war on Teyvat, it should be by the choice of humanity to fight, and not by the whims of the gods.
[ Forneus makes a sweeping gesture, and then half- bows. ]
I wish to free humanity from predestination. If I must consign myself to oblivion, then so be it.

I admire your dedication. However, if you would truly defy those who dictate fate...
[He raises a hand, placing it atop the god's head in a manner that was perhaps intended to be comforting.]
Live.

I thank you for your concern, traveler. But to dissolve a predestined fate will be to render the concept of destiny redundant.
[ He raises a hand as to emphasise a point ]
Gods do have to embody their aspect, you know. I am the God of Time, the divine manifestation of destiny. When the world does not need me, I will disappear.

...We will just have to find a way to make you mortal then. If that proves beyond our abilities, then at least be sure to reincarnate.

[ Is he joking? It's hard to tell. ]
I'm rather touched that you would care for my survival.
no subject
[From the tilt of his head, it seems like he might be smiling a little.]
...And we very much believe in refusing to die to spite our enemies.

[ Good that Sooga came now, after Forneus learned how to better work with mortals. ]
Do you have any other questions for me?
no subject
And he does have one more question, which he asks with the gravity of something that could have repercussions on a grand scale:]
What are your thoughts on bananas?
no subject
[ he appears to give it great thought ]
They are nutritious and easy to eat. I quite like them.
no subject
Good. I look forward to our continued collaboration.
no subject
[ He will hold onto the banana and probably eat it later. Do gods eat? Good question. ]
Is there anything else you wish to ask me?
no subject
That is all for the time being. Until we meet again.
[He gives a slight bow, then exits the office.]
