MAY MINGLE

May Mingle: Entombed City
Welcome to Teyvat - a vast magical world of adventure.
Everyone's hard work resulted in the gate to upper Dragonspine opening. These ruins have not been traversed in years, if not centuries - everything within has been lost to time and living memory. An entire city has been buried in the snow.

Traces of technology can be found in the city - golden boxes that contain crystals capable of recording and playing back holograms. One of the boxes introduces this place as Vindagnyr; a land once full of greenery and life. Just what happened to these people? What caused the eternal winter?

The city's inhabitants worshipped Celestia. Why then were they left to die?
State of the World
On October 1st, the entombed city of Vindagnyr becomes open for exploration. Travelers can choose to look for clues or try to scavenge the city for ancient materials or tools. Recording boxes all around the city tell stories of Vindagnyr's greener past, and of the days when winter suddenly arrived. This is the cruelty of Celestia that Forneus wished you to see.
For all questions regarding May's mingle and events, please head over to our OOC post.

And it's promptly ruined by a storm of anger and distress in the form of one Anastasia who bursts in, slamming the door open. He isn't to blame for what they saw, but that doesn't mean she'll be reasonable about this.]
What the actual fuck is all of this, Forneus?!

I understand what happened to the city. But that doesn't solve the red stones I've seen around the mountain.

Still, Rean doesn't look all too comforted by it as he walks in. He's looking pretty distraught, actually, and he's not even looking at Forneus when he speaks up.]
...That was Celestia's doing?
[He's pretty sure that's why Forneus sent them all the way there, but he wants it confirmed before he asks his next question.
His eyes are darting restlessly, but not really focusing on anything. Seems like someone didn't like what they saw. Wonder why that is?]

Sorry for the mess.
(He doesn't sound too sorry? But he can at least say he is. It's not too different from when his own classmates and soldiers would come to him during meetings while out in the field. Sometimes you just track mud and dirt in... at least this is just water basically?)
Kind of wish we could be speaking under better circumstances but... this was all part of your plan, apparently.

[ Ledah hadn't anticipated to see the sight he had. Indeed, he did imagine there would be a wreck, ruins, or something of that nature. But frozen bodies were not something he considered; he wondered if him not thinking of such a thing meant he had been too limited in his thinking.
Either way, he's definitely stumbled upon one or two already given that he's been poking around the houses, or what's remained of them. He's silent as death as he moved around, expression quiet, though when someone approached, he won't say anything.
He's still not good at this talking to people thing. ]
The Skyfrost Nail
[ Ledah stood a ways from the tree, with an expression that seemed plain but unmovable as always. But...his eyes were on the priests encased inside, staring.
It's a pitiful end, to people who had been so dependable on gods. As he thought this, there's a slight shadow that came over his face. When he felt the presence of another, he'll turn to face them, expression cold as the frost that surrounded them. His words came with a familiar, but single-minded determination as he spoke them. ]
We have to destroy it.
Wildcard.
[ Feel free to hit me up with something else or leyfi @ plurk; Ledah will definitely be around, doing things. ]
entombed city
He doesn't run into Ledah so much as Ledah probably stumbles onto him. Rean's just kneeling down next to one of the frozen corpses, a hand hovering over it as if he's trying to reach out but can't go through with it. His eyes are wide, and his breathing is shallow.
One might be forgiven for thinking he was just as frozen as any of the bodies, if not for the very slight movement underneath his coat.
Even with that, though, he's probably been out in the elements for too long. The cold is settling in, dangerously so, but he's in too much shock to move.]
...Why?
[It comes as more of a breath than a word.
It's not as if this is the first decimated city he's seen, but in a way, that somehow makes it worse. And that the bodies were just left here, even if respects were paid...]

( cold is... new to jinx- as is traveling to another world and having to make a life there for a time. but like, if she was used to that she'd probably be a little worried all things considered. but she's here now, and not yet ready to admit she might be a little overwhelmed possibly.
crossing her arms with a sigh, jinx shakes her head and seems... distracted, by a purple ornament in her hands. when she puts it away, she makes a point of braiding her hair over her shoulder to keep it out of the way. )
Well, I'm here. Now what...?
[ENTOMBED CITY]
Oh.
( everything about this place is hollow and tragic and bitter cold. the air is suffocating, and even as she carefully makes her way through the streets, she can't escape the feeling of sorrow and despair that never went away. how could it, when the frost freezes everything? careful to not disturb anyone, jinx climbs over rubble and snow alike- there's answers somewhere in this necropolis and she wants them. )

[If there's one thing to be said about Dragonspine, it's that it's cold. So, once people are done gawking in horror at the Entombed City, they might be drawn to the sight of a little campfire a bit away from the city gates. If they go close, they'll find one (1) Rean Schwarzer, sitting on a log nearby it and just... staring.
He looks pretty shaken. No big surprise there, given what he's nearby. But he's also 1) alone, which is maybe not great in the frozen mountains, and 2) not paying enough attention to notice that someone's come into his camp.
So, uh... none of this is great. What do?]
II: doing the world's worst commission, no, seriously, ham is not easy to acquire
[It's been a bit and the initial sick has at least faded slightly, so Rean can be found around the base of the mountain. It looks like he's bent over some kind of box. There's a sign nearby:
This is an emergency supply point. If you should need anything, you may help yourself to the materials here.
Dragonspine is a dangerous place. Please do not go too far in.
If anyone gets closer, they'll find that Rean's stocking the box with some supplies. It's hard to see what's in it, but he's currently wrapping up some ham he's pulled out of his bag to stock the box. And it's only when he turns back toward the box that he sees whoever's creeped up on him, and he jumps a little.]
Woah—! Ah... sorry, I didn't hear your footsteps over the wind.
Do you need something? I've got supplies if you've run low.

oh god no why - that's the name of the prompt
[What hits her first, though, is the need for survival. They're not in current danger, as far as she could tell, save for the cold. And the worst thing to do in the cold is to sit still. Hence her worry for Rean.]

[He can’t help but remember his conversation with Hu Tao as he walks through the ruins of the city. It’s like the cold caught the moment of the city’s fall and it is unable to be fully reduced to nothing. Had it fallen in a single enough.
He closes his eyes and breathes on habit, then catches himself with a frustrated look on his face. Then he shakes his head and goes to see what he can learn from this icy tragedy. No one has been here in a long time that much is clear. The dead have been preserved just like their city.] But did this happen in a single night or?
[He shakes his head and walks on,]
Temple
[He will admit he focused on the temple a little too quickly. After the recent cult in Anima city he had went there the moment he realized what the building is. Paranoia is louder than he likes to admit. He knows it was a good choice when he gets close enough to feel the cold deepen.
He places his gloved hands against one of the doors and tests it. It’s sturdy, old, and it will take a lot of effort to get it open.
But first he has to check something. He steps back and focuses. The time on the mountain had given him a little bit of control over his Vision granted power. Green threads of wind curl in the air before the door like a wind chime dancing in the breeze. It quickly turns pale blue and he stares at it.
Then he cuts it off. No sense in making things worse.]
Echoes of the distant past.
[Returning to camp after the city and a talk has left him deep in thought. This mountain is a ticking time bomb. One day it might go off. No, from his experience such things do go off.
Leaving survivors behind with scars that will never heal. He goes about tasks in camp without seeing anything. Then he settles at the edge of camp and green threads of wind wind around his arm. He can’t change and he his true, natural self. But maybe he can find a way to still have what he knows.]

traveler meeting time!
when the time comes, there’s food set out for everyone - don’t ask how it got there. ochako wasn’t in charge of that part. before long, though, she casually floats herself above everyone’s heads to get their attention, waving a little sheepishly before dropping herself back to the ground. ]
Hey, everyone, thank you for coming! There’s food and stuff if you want it, but more importantly - I thought it might help if we all came together to share any information we’ve found up to now. It’s been a while since the last meeting like this, and a lot’s changed since then.
To start, we can focus on whatever we’ve found in the city or the temple. And if there’s anything Forneus-san has told you that, um… probably isn’t something personal, please let everyone know. Anything will help, no matter how small you think it might be.
[ your infoshare is here!! you can make subthreads to focus on specific subjects if you want, but this is an open meeting, so feel free threadjack or comment around, share theories and info, whatever you need to do! ]
what happened to the previous travellers?
I spoke with Forneus before our fight with Dvalin. According to him, we aren't the first group of travelers who have come to Teyvat. The other two were siblings killed by Celestia.

[Hawks leaned over the edge of his makeshift perch on the broken stone wall, silently judging the distance down to the ground where he had climbed from. It was only a couple meters, but it'll have to do. His wings felt heavy and tingly on his back but they respond well enough to flexing--no obvious obstructions, damaged feathers, or gunk. No (visible) reason for them to be acting like they lost bloodflow (that they didn't even need). He hadn't expected his quirk to be perfect but still... the loss of so much sensation was causing him to feel paranoid.
One flap, two.
Baby (bird) steps mean if he can't take off from the ground, he should try starting with a boost--
Pain... Hawks spits some snow out before levering himself onto his elbows. He managed to glide a bit, but that was very much glorified falling compared to what he's used to accomplishing. His wings rustle along the trampled snow and dirt trail he landed on but refuse to make themselves useful otherwise. He grumbles as he moves to stand once more.]
Ugh, this will take a while.

[Hawks was very grateful he managed to borrow that bedsheet from the camp and perhaps less enamored with the idea to go up the mountain at all. The sheet helped keep his (very very red) wings hidden from the odd creatures on the mountainside and at least a little bit of heat trapped close to him. He can't fly, he can't send feathers out independently, he can't detect enemies in his blind spots. He can glide a bit, which is the only reason going up where the citizens pointed was a better idea than going across flatter ground towards the city just yet. The little jeweled marble in his pocket felt as heavy and foreign as his wings do at the moment, but perhaps he'll find something of interest up here. Certainly, it was what the people at the camp felt was most pressing for 'adventurers' to concern themselves with.
If this doesn't produce some kind of useful information, he might just have to regroup and go the other way anyway.]
III. Wildcard
[go wild!]
I. Landing
He's standing a bit away on the sidelines, wearing his uniform with the hood up to keep himself warm. He'll opt to speak up when he hears this guy talk like he's going to do this again. His voice sounds modulated by some means, making it hard to identify who this person is.]
Abilities are usually suppressed when someone arrives.

Zhongli
It's enough to make someone as whimsical and cheery as her to be more downtrodden; the cold not helping her mood in the slightest either. For now she is coming back to rest at the camp, trying to ignore the building pain in her head and neck from the constant tension and stress.
But the sight of a familiar face makes her perk up, glad for a way to not think about... everything else. She approaches him with a wave and warm smile, able to manage that much as she tugs her coat tighter around her (which Zhongli might recognise as Figaro's...)]
Good evening, Zhongli. I hope you're faring well.

Zhongli
It's during her explorations that she stumbles across Zhongli... and his lack of winter gear. Slowly raising a brow at him before approaching - voice incredibly dry as she speaks up:]
If you keep walking around like that, people are gonna catch on that you aren't human. [Even someone as used to the cold as her is bundled up; her wings wrapped tightly around her for extra, precious warmth.]

[With the initial expedition to Dragonspine, she’d kept herself busy, and felt little need to bring up the issue. But she wasn’t ever able to drop it from her mind completely, and with the ‘situation’ in the city, it felt like an apt time to talk with the almighty. If nothing else, Zhongli seemed more personable than Forneus.]
[Without much in the way of pomp and circumstance, she approaches the (much) older man.]
Zhongli, do you have a moment?

DO YOU WANNA BUILD A SNOWMAN?
Who has the time to make this many snowmen?
Of note: The snowmen in front of Ana's tent are larger; about knee-high while the others are half the size. Is this a threat? Maybe. Also, if you're a Cryo user, there isn't a single snowman in front of your tent. None snowman for you. Seems kind of sus. Zhongli also gets a funny looking snowman. Spoilers, it is not a snowman.)
(ooc: please treat this like a mingle and jump on reactions and stuff.)

Which means he's going to navigate through the snowmen carefully to find a good spot to start taking pictures with his weird magic phone thing. That's right SOMEBODY here has a phone]
Whoever did this must have a lot of time on their hands...
[Elliot would love to know what that's like]
