May Mingle: Entombed City
Welcome to Teyvat - a vast magical world of adventure.
Everyone's hard work resulted in the gate to upper Dragonspine opening. These ruins have not been traversed in years, if not centuries - everything within has been lost to time and living memory. An entire city has been buried in the snow.

People once lived there. The broken buildings host damaged furniture and weathered streets. There are various cloth-covered mounds in a house here and there, accompanied by a sprig of blue flowers. Someone has laid these people to rest after they passed away.

Traces of technology can be found in the city - golden boxes that contain crystals capable of recording and playing back holograms. One of the boxes introduces this place as Vindagnyr; a land once full of greenery and life. Just what happened to these people? What caused the eternal winter?

The highest point in the city is occupied by a temple built into a Domain. Within the Domain is a pale white tree, split in half by a strange object that has fallen through the Domain's ceiling. This temple was once a site for worship for Vindagnyr's people, and even in death they continue to pray for salvation. The priests have been frozen in ice, and the sheer cold emanating from the Skyfrost Nail makes it obvious that it is the cause of winter.

The city's inhabitants worshipped Celestia. Why then were they left to die?

State of the World

On October 1st, the entombed city of Vindagnyr becomes open for exploration. Travelers can choose to look for clues or try to scavenge the city for ancient materials or tools. Recording boxes all around the city tell stories of Vindagnyr's greener past, and of the days when winter suddenly arrived. This is the cruelty of Celestia that Forneus wished you to see.

( especially because without her magic, she's still figuring out how to do things with what she's been given. she hates this- it's like she's six again. )

I am one of the few who are native to this world.

[ It's something that has been commented on a few times, of how most of those contracted to Forneus are from other worlds. ]

Thus I am more familiar with its customs and laws. I am happy to advise you if you are unsure of anything.

( if she's going to be rude it will be with intent and purpose. there's nothing more embarrassing than social faux pas. )

Are there really so many of us?

[ Zhongli tilts his head slightly. ]

If by 'us' you mean those who are aware of Forneus' plan, then yes. Most of the people who live here are unaware of it. To spread such knowledge may cause mass panic and expose his plans earlier than necessary.

Gotcha.

( mass panic... bad. they don't need that! not that she was going to go about talking about having been in contact with a god anyways. oh wait speaking of mass panic, she no longer had her ability to incite just that... not. that she was doing that anymore. )

So- these... "visions", they're like magic? Or something similar?

In a way. They are catalysts which allow you to cast elemental magic of a certain element.

[ He didn't need to ask Jinx what her Vision was to know. He's an Archon, after all ]

A Vision user can only call upon one element, and not any others. It should come instinctively.

So not entirely unlike my hexes, then. ... I've never been able to just, cast anything that wasn't them. So even knowing that, part of me feels like I need to do something...

( an unexpected hang-up. gross. but that's what happens when your affinity for misfortune prevents you from doing literally anything but misfortune. ... whatever. she'll adjust. )

You would also be able to sense the presence of elemental energy around you. This is a skill known as Elemental Sight. By drawing on elements that are already present around you, you can cast magic at a lower cost.

[ Because the alternative veers into cast from HP territory, unfortunately. ]

Oh! Neat, love that. That's kinda how it's supposed to work for most magic-users back home.

( ... not gonna elaborate, jinx? okay. vague kids, what can you do. still, if it's the mountain they're going to go up... well, she was given a weapon, at least, so. )

I know that there's a city up there. Is that why we're all here right now? Or did something else call for our presence? Figure I might as well get up to speed...

Forneus wished to show all the outlanders the lost city, so that they can make their judgment as to they will continue aiding him.

[ This includes Jinx too. She's agreed to come here by her contract, but it's best that she sees up close what she's gonna deal with. Or that's what he thinks Forneus wants. ]

For now, there is no immediate danger that we must resolve. It is intended to be a time of rest and exploration.

( hm. why would seeing the city make them need to question if they want to continue? something's fishy 'bout that. she might need to poke around further... )

It was no trouble. [ He's playing his role as an NPC, after all. ] There are quite a few people here your age as well, if you would like to be amongst them.

[ He notes her not-too-enthusiastic expression. That would mean that she has her own reasons for not being immediately friendly with fellow young people... it falls in line with some of his observations, though he doesn't voice it for now. ]

[ He still needs to check on some things around and he figures he shouldn't harry Jinx with too much questions. ]

( he's right, ultimately- in due time, perhaps. but when he's a stranger she's only just met isn't the time. still, if he's got things to do, far be it from her to keep him. she has to acclimate further anyways... especially with a catalyst. and she never likes messing up in front of other people. especially adults. )
