MAY MINGLE

May Mingle: Entombed City
Welcome to Teyvat - a vast magical world of adventure.

Everyone's hard work resulted in the gate to upper Dragonspine opening. These ruins have not been traversed in years, if not centuries - everything within has been lost to time and living memory. An entire city has been buried in the snow.

People once lived there. The broken buildings host damaged furniture and weathered streets. There are various cloth-covered mounds in a house here and there, accompanied by a sprig of blue flowers. Someone has laid these people to rest after they passed away.

Traces of technology can be found in the city - golden boxes that contain crystals capable of recording and playing back holograms. One of the boxes introduces this place as Vindagnyr; a land once full of greenery and life. Just what happened to these people? What caused the eternal winter?

The highest point in the city is occupied by a temple built into a Domain. Within the Domain is a pale white tree, split in half by a strange object that has fallen through the Domain's ceiling. This temple was once a site for worship for Vindagnyr's people, and even in death they continue to pray for salvation. The priests have been frozen in ice, and the sheer cold emanating from the Skyfrost Nail makes it obvious that it is the cause of winter.

The city's inhabitants worshipped Celestia. Why then were they left to die?

State of the World

On October 1st, the entombed city of Vindagnyr becomes open for exploration. Travelers can choose to look for clues or try to scavenge the city for ancient materials or tools. Recording boxes all around the city tell stories of Vindagnyr's greener past, and of the days when winter suddenly arrived. This is the cruelty of Celestia that Forneus wished you to see.

[Does it bother her? That’s a good question. One that she’s not sure of the answer of.]

Considering that my job back home is killing gods, it should.

[But]

For some reason, it doesn’t. Were you to want to harm us, you’ve had plenty of opportunities before now.

[ He would have six thousand years to show his true colours, but he has never once betrayed humanity. ]

Then what will you do now?

[ Try to kill him? Or something? He's just mildly curious at her reactions. ]

[Rose respects that. Were she to live for six thousand years, she’s not sure that she could do the same. Humanity always finds a way to betray those around them.]

Nothing, I don’t think. I never particularly enjoyed killing gods, but fate forced my hand. You’ve done nothing but respect us, so I don’t see any reason that I should act.

I see.

[ A more meaningful reiteration of what he had just said; an affirmation and acknowledgement. ]

Is there anything you wish to ask a god such as I?

There are plenty of things I wish to ask.

[Her lips curl into a frown.]

But I don't think a kind god as yourself would have the proper answers.

I am not kind, merely practical.

[ Though others might comment otherwise. He waits to see if Rose would ask him anything else. ]

[Rose shrugs. She's not sure that she believes him, but Zhongli strikes her as the type of person who's as stubborn as a rock. No need to push the issue. For now.]

If you insist. It seems we're done here for today.

[Translation: She will absolutely be coming to you for help in the future, please look forward to it (tm)].

[ It's hard to make Zhongli change his mind about anything. For one, it'll probably take a few millennia.

He inclines his head, expecting Rose to leave. He's used to people coming and asking him for help - it's one of the reasons his 'retirement' hasn't really been going as intended. He just can't turn down requests... most of them. ]
