October Mid-Month Event
Welcome to Teyvat - a vast magical world of adventure.
Two weeks after the Travelers arrive in Inazuma, the conflict between the Shogunate and the Sangonomiya Resistance begin to intensify. At Forneus' behest, you venture west to survey the battlegrounds and consider your next move.

Heading west from Narukami Island will bring you to Kannazuka, the location of the Mikage Furnace. This furnace uses the power of the Tatarigami to produce high-quality swords for the Shogunate. However, sabotage by members of the Resistance have led to the furnace becoming unstable. The Shogunate's soldiers and the Shrine Maidens have set up camp on the island, but the two factions cannot decide on how to address the problem. That's where you come in. Unfettered by the chains of bureaucracy, you can act as you wish. Venture into the Furnace and stabilize it before it blows the island away.

Yashiori Island lies even further west. Its position means that it is currently the middle ground where the Shogunate and the Resistance skirmish. However, the fighting has died down due to torrential rain that blankets the island, as well as the intense Electro energy within Musoujin Gorge. Once, this island was the battlefield between the Raiden Shogun and Orobashi, with the latter defeated and sealed. However, someone broke its seals during the civil war, and the lingering resentment of the Serpent has possessed soldiers on the island, turning them violent.

Once again, a stalemate that can only be broken from the outside. This isn't anything new now, is it?

State of the World

The Sangonomiya Resistance have declared civil war on the Shogunate after the establishment of the Vision Hunt Decree. As you travel through Inazuma, you will eventually meet them, as well as their leader. It becomes evident that the two sides are locked in equal balance, and that the civil war does nothing good for anyone... which is why the overseer of the Narukami Shrine has asked you to come. You are unbound by any destiny, and thus able to tip the scales. But to do that, you will need a complete picture of the situation, and to solve problems that no one is willing to face.

No one has seen the Shogun out in public for quite a while. It seems that only a sufficiently grave danger will provoke her from within her castle. The enemy of eternity is change, and you are just that.

[He gestures, stopping Julian from flying after where he pointed.]

Probably can't just electrocute them, huh?

[He gives a nod. Yes, that's right! Good job!]

You can, but it may cause a swirl reaction that'll electrocute anything that's near the slime too.

[So, do it at a range. ]

Ameno Slimes will inflate themselves before they attack. That's the best time to strike them.

Julian, go over and piss the slimes off.

[If you have never seen a raven look offended before, Jun, you're in for a treat right now. August just gives him a Look.]

Do it. You can move faster than Jun and I sure as fuck ain't getting close to them!

He looks between these two. Is this animal cruelty...?]

I could just use geo to lure them out...

[Maybe bird-on-bird cruelty?

Julian fluffs his feathers.]

Caw!!!

[You can almost hear the "Yeah, boss!" in that caw. August ignores him and turns to Jun.]

Like, throwing rocks? That'll work?

[Who knew a raven could have such sass? Jun is learning a lot today]

More like shifting the earth near them to startle them out of hiding, but it should work.

[He learned from the best!]

I mean, I'd get the fuck away from a localized earthquake so go for it.

[Meanwhile, he readies his deck to pop the slimes the second they inflate.]

[Jun will give a simple nod before he focuses on the spot, holding out his hand and flicking his wrist in a deliberate manner. The rocks in the corner the slimes are hiding will start to move and shake.

And sure enough? That gets a couple of Ameno slimes to appear and pop out of the ground! They're all yours August! ]

[And they're quickly popped by August flinging cards at them and hitting them with electricity.]

Y'know, I feel like "inflating before I attack and making myself super vulnerable" is something evolution should've gotten rid of.

Nice work.

[Jun just watched August do that. Not raising a finger to help. This is a tutorial fight after all. ]

Slimes are elemental lifeforms. They don't reproduce the same way as humans, so they don't follow the same rules of evolution.

[Yeah, August is getting the tutorial vibes big time. He's not complaining; this is way safer than the last time he trained.]

Okay, but. That's literally suicidal.

[whiteshroud]

[There is a distorted sound as he sighs.]

You only knew about the weakness because I told you. Had you not struck then, they would've knocked you over with their attack.

[So get off that high horse. Truthfully, he's lost count of how many times August has criticized someone in this one venture, so he feels compelled to say something]

How about you focus less on finding ways to criticize others and focus more on improving yourself?

Because nobody's perfect and I can multitask?

[Just saying.]

Just because I didn't know until you told me doesn't mean I can't realize that something is a really dumb idea.

Then why did you do it? Because your stance would leave you open to any attacks.

How you hold yourself in a fight?

I literally just stand there and throw cards, dude.

[He's a turret, not a fighter??? Does he need a stance???]

So? Opponents won't care if your weapon is unusual. They'll still attack you.

The way you hold yourself, if something got an attack on you, you'd be dead in a hit. Just like the slime.

[August decides not to point out that he knows they'll still attack him.]

Usually Alex or someone's in front, keeping them from getting to me, and I can usually kill the things before they get to me if that doesn't work.

[Or: he's literally never had to worry about it before now.

Jun is not paid enough for this.]

Not to point out the obvious, but Alex's not here.

[Just putting that out there. But really that's not his main point]

It's fine that you're new and unskilled to fighting. That's to be expected considering how things are on Earth. [Most people never have to know fighting or fending off monsters.]

But the way you act judgmental towards everyone while overlooking or dismissing your own shortcomings is .... ironic.

[It's almost like a switch gets flipped when Jun first mentions Alexandre and then brings up the whole dismissiveness thing he does. He just shrugs, but he seems to close in on himself a little and doesn't look at Jun, instead choosing to look for more slimes or something.

He knows it's ironic. It's easier to dismiss how much he sucks than to dwell on it, though, and he critiques like he breathes. At least he's aware of it. Mostly.]

Yeah, and? --hey, think I found the thing.

[He gestures up ahead, where he sees a trail of Electro.]

[How August closes in on himself and acts flippant about what he said before changing the subject, it's perceived as August trying to blow him off again. The mission does matter to Jun, so when August points out the trail he does make note of it. But he's not about to let the subject change go unchallenged. ]

You act like people assume I will when they find out my affiliation.

[That's what he meant by ironic. And with that, he'll continue following the trail - this time moving at his own pace rather than keeping it slow for August's sake. ]

[August is at least used to be the slowest in a group, so it's not too hard to pick up the pace a little so Jun doesn't totally leave him behind.]
