January Mingle: A Ballad in Goblets
Welcome to Teyvat - a vast magical world of adventure.
You open your eyes to an unfamiliar sight. A cool breeze flits through rustic buildings and sunny streets, carrying the smell of flowers and wine. The very air itself seems charged with mana, the warm pulse of the land palpable beneath your feet. This is a new world, a world where the elements compose all of reality. Before you is a bubbling fountain, and a key is entwined between your fingers. And that weight on your hip? A sparkling bauble that you've never seen before, yet it feels natural, as if it had always been there.

Asking around nets you the name of this world - Teyvat - and the name of this city - Mondstadt, blessed by the Anemo Archon, Barbatos. Your new home is accessible with the key placed in your hands, though this also brings to mind another question. How will you get money? Food isn't free, after all.

Luckily for you, there's plenty of jobs available for the enterprising Traveler. Be it taking requests from the Adventurers' Guild, or working part-time at one of Mondstadt's many food establishments, Mora is to be had when hard work is involved. The cuisine of Mondstadt is best paired with its wine, served at bars or enjoyed in private with a few friends.

And about that shining gem. locals will tell you that it is a Vision, a sign of favour from Teyvat's elemental gods. With the Vision on hand, you find yourself capable of commanding one of the seven elements. What will you do with this newfound blessing? Use it for good... or for evil?

Mondstadt's liveliness doesn't diminish when night falls. Bards sing through the wee hours of the night, and the lights of the city help keep most evildoers at bay. All seems peaceful, a pastoral idyll of a life that seems more at home in a storybook. Yet for those Travelers who venture out beyond the city's walls and into the ruins dotting the landscape, they may discover hints of a bloodier past now forgotten.

Glancing at any of the calendars in the city will tell you the current date. August 10th was the day you arrived. As soon as the last minute of August 16th slips away, the world around you changes. A blink, and time itself rewinds by seven days. Looking outside, the mown lawns have regrown, the windmill needs fixing again, and the well is once again full. Just what is happening here? It seems only you, Traveler, remembers the week that never was.

State of the World

For the first two weeks of the game, IC time will be looping from August 10th to August 16th. It's currently late summer in Mondstadt, and the trees are just beginning to turn out their autumn colours. The weather is cool and pleasant, with light showers on Tuesday (11th) and Friday (14th). It's also a good time to go out gathering berries and nature's bounty from Mondstadt's forests and valleys.

These two weeks will let us trial out our commissions and regains system and craft improvements for February onwards. There will be no activity requirements for January, so all threads started during this time period can be used for regains!

[ Hey, maybe some girls are into the tall, brooding men with long flowing hair? Not her personally (sorry Seonho) but surely someone out there is waiting for a guy like Seonho to sweep her (or him) off their feet, and Zeta's bored enough to try and hunt down that person.

In fact, she's so willing to link two strangers together in happy (?) matrimony that she grabs hold of Seonho's arm and tries to tug him up and out of his chair. ]

Oh c'mon, you've never heard of love at first sight? You never know what might happen.

[ Let's go, buddy, up and at 'em. ]

Besides, it's not like you have to get married if you catch the bouquet. It's just a superstition, like breaking mirrors or walking under ladders.

[ Stop being such a WEENIE!! ]

[WHAT'S HAPPENING? HELLO???

Seonho had not expected this amount of arm strength from Zeta, honestly. Where is it all coming from... her pigtails?? anyway he's successfully hauled up from his chair.]

-- I am not familiar with any of those superstitions, unfortunately. I -- wait, where are we going?

[Seonho says, trying in vain to stand his GROUND once he realizes that Zeta is trying to... what is she trying to do

IS SHE TRYING TO CRASH THIS WEDDING,]

[ Her hair is full of secrets.

Seonho will have plenty of time to wonder just where all her upper body strength comes from as he's half-dragged over to where all the more raucous guests are standing, congregated around the bride and groom. Technically the vows aren't quiiiiite done yet but you know, it's just a matter of time.

Thirty seconds (which i mistyped as thirsty seconds at first) as a matter of fact before the head honcho in charge - do they still have priests here in Teyvat? - declares the happy couple man and wife and they kiss romantically as the crowd cheers. Zeta hoots and hollers once too, her smile wide and bright.

She is NOT a wedding crasher or a homewrecker, thank you very much. ]

They look pretty cute together, don't they? [ But more importantly: ] Make sure you get in position, while you still have time.

[ Get in position? What position? Where?? ]

Seonho claps for the happy couple too -- out of instinct and peer pressure tbh, but his gaze isn't focused on the loving couple before him. how can he focus on them, when he has Sudden Feeling Of Dread climbing up his spine....]

-- I am not going to catch the bouquet. [Seonho says, even as Zeta's dangerous hands are still on him.] I do not even know these people -- !

However, Zeta's only definition of victory today is getting Seonho to catch the soon-to-be-thrown bouquet. It's still clutched firmly in the bride's hands as she and the groom wave at their crowd of onlookers, but Soon.

Seonho's protests fall on deaf ears, and she continues maneuvering him into place since he seems so reluctant to do any of the actual work himself. Sad. ]

So? It's not like you're about to commit a crime or anything. It's just for fun.

[ She peers up at him again, grinning impishly. ]

Don't tell me you're afraid of a couple of girls in fancy dresses. [ Well, actually— ] Though if you were, I wouldn't blame you. Girls are pretty tough, after all.

[ Like Huijae!!!! ]

[LIKE HUIJAE... He can't imagine Huijae trying to catch a bouquet though. She seemed to scorn those sorts of gestures... Or maybe she just hates them when they're coming from him.

Zeta's impish grin does remind him of her though -- like that time when Huijae threw her arm around his neck all buddy-buddy like after calling him problematic.]

What I'm afraid of is taking an opportunity away from a more deserving person.

[IS THIS REALLY FUN, ZETA?? but if she's got her arms around his, then he'll link his own in hers, like he's relying on her friendship -- instead of what he's really doing, which is keeping her anchored right next to him.]

Speaking of fun, I think it would be very unfortunate if you didn't also participate. You should have a chance at marriage as well. It's only right.

[ It's cute that he's trying so hard to rope her into this too. Well, it's not like she's going to weasel her own way out of this after working so hard to get him to participate so fine, she will happily link arms with him as they wait for the bride to finish her waving and smiling.

Unfortunately, she does have to be brutally honest about one thing. ]

But she appreciates the sly humor back, his (dubious) good cheer starting a feedback loop and only serving to widen her smile. She doesn't even notice the Looks their way—or maybe she just doesn't care. ]

She lifts, throws—and then it's every man and woman for himself, with the exception of Seonho who is getting shoved to the front as best as Zeta can manage. ]

[Seonho has no time to write down every little white lie Zeta's managed to tell him in the past twenty minutes, because now he's being pushed to the front where he's being accidentally elbowed by this very eager young lady dressed in various shades of orange and is surrounded by ENEMIES,,, AT THE FRONT... SIDES... BEHIND TOO BECAUSE ZETA IS THERE!!

And to his eternal fortune, the bouquet makes a beeline right in his direction -- maybe if he drops down to the floor right now, NO HE HAS NO TIME!! AHHH!!! Seonho does not in fact scream, (he saves that for his internal monologue). Instead, he raises his hands like he's gonna catch the bouquet then he

locks his hands together and

gently bops it up and over, so that it goes flying in Zeta's direction instead, HEH!!!! IN THE SPIRIT OF IWAIZUMI, TAKE THAT ZETA!!!]

[ In the spirit of Iwaizumi, she's gonna headbutt Seonho in the chest—

Just kidding, there are too many innocent bystanders here to risk a fullbody tackle, and in any case there's not really time to carefully draft out a plan of attack, not when the bouquet is two seconds away from bopping her on the head. (Why does time move so fast?)

So! Since the alternative is letting someone else catch it - no way - she clamps her fingers around it, yanks it close to her chest, and, when the worst of the angry mob seems to have accepted that, unremorsefully shoves into the sash around Seonho's waist. Or into a stray opening in his outfit, whatever he's wearing. ]

Here. All yours!

[ This is absolutely not how it works but that has never stopped her before. ]

By the way, I think that girl's looking at you.

[ She points to a blonde-haired woman glaring daggers at Seonho.....she may or may not be contemplating a murder in order to get her hands on this bouquet. ]

Seonho looks down at this cute bouquet that's now in his sash, like a fanny pack except made of flowers. u know what zeta... touche.]

I think you are right. Her gaze is far too passionate to mistake.

[his voice. it's dryer than the sahara. or whatever deserts exist in granblue fantasy. He pulls the bouquet out so he can hold it in his hands, because somehow holding it is a smidgen less embarrassing then wearing it on his hip.]

You said that women would fight to catch the bouquet. Is there another part to this tradition that mentions what happens after? A duel to the death, perhaps?

[ She can't help but laugh, the sound ringing out warm and joyful. What a great guy, he thinks he's so funny. But he's been a good sport about all this so far and his lack of biting retort and cold shoulder earns him genuine affection from her. He's a good guy at heart, she can tell that much.

Of course, that doesn't mean she's about to make any of this easier on him. Her smile is still wide and overly playful, even as she tips her head in (mock) thought. ]

Why, worried that you came unprepared? You can always name me as your champion and I can fight for you.

[ She doesn't sound at all worried as she pats him on the arm. ]

I'm just kidding, there's no battle. Well [ she amends her statement quickly ] there might be a battle of wits if that's the kind of thing you guys end up talking about.

[ Talking about? Who is he about to go talk to?? The blonde lady dressed in fancy germany Balenciaga, that's who, as Zeta gives him a good shove forward before—probably doing a 180 and weaseling her way through the crowd away from him, though not before waving one last time. ]
