January Mingle: A Ballad in Goblets
Welcome to Teyvat - a vast magical world of adventure.
You open your eyes to an unfamiliar sight. A cool breeze flits through rustic buildings and sunny streets, carrying the smell of flowers and wine. The very air itself seems charged with mana, the warm pulse of the land palpable beneath your feet. This is a new world, a world where the elements compose all of reality. Before you is a bubbling fountain, and a key is entwined between your fingers. And that weight on your hip? A sparkling bauble that you've never seen before, yet it feels natural, as if it had always been there.

Asking around nets you the name of this world - Teyvat - and the name of this city - Mondstadt, blessed by the Anemo Archon, Barbatos. Your new home is accessible with the key placed in your hands, though this also brings to mind another question. How will you get money? Food isn't free, after all.

Luckily for you, there's plenty of jobs available for the enterprising Traveler. Be it taking requests from the Adventurers' Guild, or working part-time at one of Mondstadt's many food establishments, Mora is to be had when hard work is involved. The cuisine of Mondstadt is best paired with its wine, served at bars or enjoyed in private with a few friends.

And about that shining gem. locals will tell you that it is a Vision, a sign of favour from Teyvat's elemental gods. With the Vision on hand, you find yourself capable of commanding one of the seven elements. What will you do with this newfound blessing? Use it for good... or for evil?

Mondstadt's liveliness doesn't diminish when night falls. Bards sing through the wee hours of the night, and the lights of the city help keep most evildoers at bay. All seems peaceful, a pastoral idyll of a life that seems more at home in a storybook. Yet for those Travelers who venture out beyond the city's walls and into the ruins dotting the landscape, they may discover hints of a bloodier past now forgotten.

Glancing at any of the calendars in the city will tell you the current date. August 10th was the day you arrived. As soon as the last minute of August 16th slips away, the world around you changes. A blink, and time itself rewinds by seven days. Looking outside, the mown lawns have regrown, the windmill needs fixing again, and the well is once again full. Just what is happening here? It seems only you, Traveler, remembers the week that never was.

State of the World

For the first two weeks of the game, IC time will be looping from August 10th to August 16th. It's currently late summer in Mondstadt, and the trees are just beginning to turn out their autumn colours. The weather is cool and pleasant, with light showers on Tuesday (11th) and Friday (14th). It's also a good time to go out gathering berries and nature's bounty from Mondstadt's forests and valleys.

These two weeks will let us trial out our commissions and regains system and craft improvements for February onwards. There will be no activity requirements for January, so all threads started during this time period can be used for regains!

I. Arrival
[Jun, having been getting ready for a patrol of Fogtown, hadn't been expecting to be suddenly warped somewhere else. He appears in knight garb and holding a very large sword. In fact it's so large and heavy, the young knight is pulled by the weight as the end of it falls against the ground. From his startled expression, this was not expected.]

What-?!

[Confused and alarmed, he focuses on trying to lift the sword - something he's very used to doing with ease but now was finding to be a real struggle. All the while it's slowly dawning on him what predicament he's landed himself in.]

II. Exploring the City
[Eventually and probably with the help of some others, Jun was able to find the location of his housing and dropped off his rather now unwieldly sword so he didn't have to drag it around everywhere. With that taken care of, it was time to explore the city and gather information.

And that's exactly what you'll find him doing. Wandering the streets still in uniform (he had no normal clothes), asking locals information, observing people as he puts together pieces. He was in a different world, again. His Seal wasn't working, nor was the rest of his magic. He'd been given a "Vision" which was a blessing from one of the local gods- a gift that he was less than thrilled about. And he had no idea how he was supposed to get home. All around...it wasn't a great situation.

Eventually, his wandering ends up with him sitting on the staircase of the cathedral, geo vision in his hand, looking a little forlorn as he tries to sort all his new information]

Teyvat ... I've heard that name before. But why am I here...?

III. Mistaken Identity
[Unfortunately while his uniform didn't make him stick out like a sore thumb exactly, it did keep getting him mistaken for a Knight of Favonius. Perhaps you might come across him when he's being stopped by someone]

Look, I'm not actually a-- [Nope, they're not listening and continuing to air their grievances over something minor. Jun can only stare like a deer in the headlights. He was trained to fight Greeds, not deal with this stuff. He probably needs to be bailed out.]

[ Judging by what he heard from the green-haired male, it's highly likely he's in the same situation as he... ]

[ Keith thought that the contract was some kind of weird dream, an invitation to some sort of afterlife he couldn't explain, and he does, indeed, wake up to a rather peaceful place before him. It's sunny and warm -- two things he wasn't expecting to feel for a while longer -- and his initial reaction is to figure out where he is.

After he learns the name of his whereabouts (and finding it strange that nobody seems to be questioning why he's asking), he sets out to gather more information. He can't have possibly been the only person to have arrived here like this, right...

So Keith takes his chances on someone who also doesn't seem like they're from here. He'll approach with zero hesitation and ask: ]

Hey. Did you get that weird dream, too?

[ Straight to the point. No formalities whatsoever. ]

[ Keith is on his way to...somewhere...when he's suddenly stopped by a bard in the city who asks if he wants to listen to one of his songs. Keith regards him briefly, then: ]

Sorry. I've got somewhere I need to be.

[ The bard, however, does not seem to want to take no for an answer. He continues to try to persuade Keith to stay through various means, and Keith is getting continuously more agitated. His irritation is written all over his face. ]

Look, I'm sure you're a good singer or whatever, but I'm busy.

[ Is he, though? Maybe he should he actually take a break to stop and smell the roses... ]

time rewinds.

[ Post-August 16th is when things start to get weird. He first notices a lawn outside of his apartment building having somehow grown its grass back after it was just trimmed, though he's also wondering if that can be chalked up to being magic shenanigans. Some potion or something that makes plants grow faster, who knows.

It's not until the notices the same windmill being broken yet again that Keith starts to question things. It's odd that it's being repaired again when it was fixed within the past few days, and he looks up at it and squints his eyes. ]

Wasn't that supposed to be taken care of? Or is it really just that defective?

[ ...Hm. Very suspicious... ]

[Showing up in a brand new world? This sure isn't how Elliot was expecting his day to go! He was just wrapping up with internally screaming as Keith walks up to him. ]

Huh?

[It takes a moment for him to recall. Oh. right. He had been dreaming before this]

O-Oh, you mean the flying one?

a- Arrival

[Overworking is her specialty, she knows, so nodding off now and again is expected, right? Ganyu always jerks back to the waking world within a few minutes at most-- naps aside, thanks to her internal clock. It's a skill of hers developed over centuries of serving as a secretary at the Yuehai Pavilion. That, coupled with her very infrequent personal time, allows her to have the art of sleep down to a science.

So why is it all of a sudden, she jerks awake to find herself very much not in Liyue? There'd been a dream, but that couldn't have anything to do with it. Tense, she looks around quickly to take her surroundings into account. She still has her vision and bow, that's a relief. The other things that get her attention... a different style of architecture, lots of windmills, a walled city. Her eyes fall on a local outdoor eatery, so Ganyu goes to take a look and see if she can cement an idea of her location. Sure enough, the word Mondstadt jumps out at her. Well, that's a new one.]

M-Mondstadt? How did I get here of all places?! [Her cool exterior melts away, and for once, the woman looks appropriately taken aback.]

b- Exploration

[True enough to her initial discovery, things are very much windy and free, so to speak. The people are friendly for the most part, only a very few commenting on her horns, even saying they liked her hairpiece. Nice of them to assume she's a traveler from Liyue, which is somehow technically correct.

Quickly, though, she finds that trying to recall events before her arrival leave her with few recollections other than hazy images and fuzzy moments. It's worrisome to say the least. Not to mention the slight itch she feels from some sort of seal, thanks to her Adepti abilities. Ganyu does determine that at the moment, there's nothing she can do about either, other than try to make sense of things. And that means finding her way around Mondstadt-- the city and country.

So for the next however long, she'll be found all around the city, making her way into random alleys, poking her head into shops, even entering the cathedral and knights' headquarters. Springvale also gets her attention, as does the Dawn Winery, and Thousand Winds Temple. Poking around and asking questions is bound to catch someone's interest, right?]

c- Daily Life

[Between making her way around and questioning everyone, Ganyu finds herself in another new situation: she has time on her hands. Lots of it. It's almost unnerving to her. Normally up to her eyeballs in paperwork, she sometimes finds herself looking at her empty hands like she's never seen them before and flexing her fingers to make sure they still work properly. It takes her a couple days to settle down and come up with a new activity to pass the time.

People watching. She can be found sitting outside the Angel's Share or Good Hunter, idly watching the passersby. If they make eye contact, she'll offer a polite smile and nod.]

Hello, lovely weather today, isn't it? [Yes, that includes the drizzly days. That's what awnings are for. If she's caught around mealtime, there'll be a salad on the the table before her. A silent thanks to Rex Lapis goes unheard that she isn't found without a supply of mora here. Sit down across from her, and she might even offer to buy a meal for her new companion.]

[Jun meanwhile hadn't been so fortunate to arrive with any money. At first it didn't occur to him since there was so many other pressing problems to deal with. But as the day wore on, the fact grew ever more apparent as he grew hungrier. He was probably staring at the Good Hunter's offerings a bit too long, not realizing he was looking in Ganyu's general direction as well, when he's spoken to.

Quickly, he tries to recover and offer a smile. Wasn't salivating here, oh no siree!]

Oh, yeah! Very lovely!

[When Anastasia opens her eyes, it's not to fog or the sounds of whatever the hell the island is throwing at them, but it's to the sight of a quaint city and the sound of the fountain in front of her. She examines the new items on her person, the strange bauble on her waist... and the complete absence of all her powers.

So this pretty, elegantly dressed young woman with blackened wings lets her displeasure known with a loud "What the FUCK", garnering more than a few glances before she turns on her heel and stomps off. Once more she's been spirited away, and now her powers are useless. Time to investigate, she supposes.]


I. Having Fun Isn't Hard When You Have A Library Card

[This place has a library, and Anastasia doesn't hesitate to basically barge her way in there and start reading through every book she can get a hold of, no matter the topic. This topic about random flowers? She's reading it. This story about a guy who really loved mountains? She's reading that too. Which means that within the library, one of the tables has piles and piles of books, with Anastasia intensely reading through them. There's no way she can read through all of them, but she's damn well going to try!

And if she spots anyone who approaches, she glances over at them before waving a hand at the books she's pushed to the side.]

I've read those ones, so take your pick.

[At least she's... willing to share. I guess.]

II. Sweet Dreams

[Anastasia eventually chills out, either by getting some information or by exhausting herself. But it's late in the day when the winged woman has sat herself down in Angel's Share, sipping on something non-alcoholic since she is not risking getting drunk. Despite sitting a bit to the side, she still sticks out due to her wings, and if she spots someone just as lost as she feels she'll wave them over - or just feel free to join her in general, she's friendly enough when she's not flipping out.

Once she has a new drinking buddy, she puts her cup down and plants her chin in her hand, lips slanted in a way that spells out just how Tired she is.]

So, question. Did you have any sort of weird dream? And have you ever had one of these... Vision things before?

[She appreciates the fire, but she misses being able to fly okok.]

III. Out in The Wilds

[She doesn't have her powers anymore, but that doesn't mean she can't fight. By the time she actually ventures out of the city, she's got a claymore in hand and more of an understanding of this strange... Vision thing. And a flaming claymore still hits hard either way, channeling enough of her Vision into that to allow the blade to light up for a brief second. So she's out here mostly bullying slimes and hilichurls as she gets used to being a squishy mortal.

Maybe you're out adventuring or exploring or getting the lay of the land, but eventually you'll stumble across one of the hilichurl camps, Anastasia soon wandering over as you keep a distance, regarding her new companion with a curious smirk.]

We should be able to take them out, if it's two of us. Or you can just sit back and watch.

[And they are technically being a roadblock, so best to clear them out before they cause any damage to innocent merchants.]

IV. Let's Do The Time Warp Again

[This isn't right.

The calendar by the diner says Aug 10th, but Anastasia knows at least a week has passed. But she hears people talk about hilichurals she knows were taken care of, of little issues that the new arrivals already did, of things needing repaired... She goes around asking the locals, but is told the same thing. That it's August 10th, of course!

So instead she tracks down one of her fellow travelers, looking rather flustered and irritated - but it's clear they're not the source of her irritation.]

Please tell me you don't think it's August 10th, I know we've been here for at least a week.

[ Libraries are where the nerds go and Lucas... might be a slight nerd. He's no stranger to research, and considering he has no idea what's going on, he figures the library is a good place to start getting a clue.

It's when he comes across the table stacked with books that he pauses his perusal of the shelves. There's certainly a wide variety of topics here, and he casts a look at the woman responsible for this mess. ]

You've already gone through this many?

[ What a mega nerd... Lucas picks up one of the books to casually flip through it. Hm, a book about flowers. That's not useful at all!! ]

early in the week

Wow...Junpei would be so jealous of me right now. I've been dropped straight into an isekai anime.

[Hello, don't mind this young lady in a black high school uniform talking to herself, walking around as she takes everything in. At her side is a silver shiba inu, looking up at her with ears perked forward, yipping at intervals as if he's replying to what she's saying.]

Well, wherever we've ended up, I'm glad that I have you with me, Koro-chan. Even if it'd be better if you were with the others instead. [She smiles wistfully, and then clenches a fist in front of her.] Alright, let's go!

[And if she spots a person who is very obviously not dressed like the locals, she'll wave wildly to catch their attention, grinning.]

Heyyy! You're from out of town, too, right? Let's go exploring! First rule of isekai anime is to figure out what's wrong with the world and who the boss is!

[It's not, but that's what she remembers being important. And is probably applicable anyways.]

ii. passing hours
anytime in the week, daytime

[Minako is an adventuring spirit at heart, so she'll be exploring a lot of the town with Koromaru very early on...and given that the city is relatively small, that won't take long at all. You can find her in a variety of places, but there are a few in particular she'll be hanging around the most. She'll almost certainly be turned down membership to the Knights of Favonius, but she'll definitely be lingering around the building, watching the Knights fly with their gliders.]

Ugh, it looks so much fun, I want to try it...

[She can also be found outside the city. She doesn't wander far, since she wants to stay close to the other Travelers, but she's pretty confident even if it's just her and Koromaru. Her activities range from gathering food to finding nice spots to enjoy the scenery. Notably, she'll often be seen training with a unique, non-Monstadt spear, practicing using her new powers. When she isn't fighting stray monsters, Koromaru is acting as her sparring partner, doing flips and dodges to avoid her attacks.]

Whew! Pretty handy, this Vision thing...so much easier than Evoking! [Koromaru yips.] Yeah, you're right. I still like the old way better.

iii. when the moon's reaching out to the stars
anytime in the week, evening

[She's definitely not a great enough camper to stay out in the wild during night, so Minako will usually be back in the city by then. She could be convinced if someone needs help to explore any of the ruins, though, and you get two partners for the price of one! Otherwise, she can be found hanging out with the bards, drinking something that is probably non-alcoholic, and stargazing from any number of high spots in the city. After struggling to get up there, that is.]

Ugh, some of those Travelers make it look so easy to climb up walls....what's their secret? Are their Visions upgraded compared to mine? Korochan, maybe we need to keep training to level up some more...

Aaagh! I didn't know I was timed! I was so close to finishing!

[She groans from where she's clinging to the side of the house she'd climbed up, all of the Philanemo Mushrooms she'd been harvesting now back on its walls and roof. Koromaru barks in alarm, and she drops down, landing lightly on her feet.]

Fine! If that's how it is, I'll just get faster at it!

[Cue running and clinging onto the wall again, and inching her way up to the first mushroom. Koromaru looks at someone nearby, asking with his red puppy dog eyes for them to please stop his Leader before she runs out of stamina and dies from falling.]

[If Tio looks taken aback at first, she tries not to let it show. This situation is new to her, and extremely overwhelming. At least the other girl seems to be...trying? it be helpful? Even if she is very loud.]

I am unfamiliar with the term ‘isekai anime.’ Nor do I know why we were brought here.

I. CURRENT (GET IT) AFFAIRS.

[ It would be exactly Lucas' luck to find the World Tree, get all his magic replenished, and then end up here with all that effort gone to waste. It feels completely wrong to have none of his magic with him, only an unfamiliar spark and static against his finger tips. There is truly no one in this world who suffers as much as Lucas, and he heaves an exaggerated sigh in the middle of a strange town surrounded by strange faces. At least he'd left the princess finely tuned up back home before finding himself here.

There'll be time to sulk later. Right now, his main interest goes to the bauble against his side, and the curious electric charge rippling under his skin. It's not the magic he's familiar with, but there's enough about it that sets his mind a bit at ease. He's not completely defenseless, he thinks as he wanders through the town and stares at the way he can create small bursts of static from his hand.

And for added experimentation, he'll even come up behind random people and press a finger against an exposed arm, the back of the neck, or even the ends of people's hair and give them a little shock.

It's for SCIENCE. ]

II. THERE'S NO WAY THIS GOES WRONG.

[ Life's a pain when Lucas can't just magic currency into being the way he usually does. He's left standing in front of a food stall, finger tapping away against his chin as he considers and weighs his options. He's certainly not going to allow himself to starve, but there's not a lot he has to barter with, least of all Mora.

It's about then that he glances to the side and catches the eye of a fellow traveler, and he quickly lifts his hand away from his chin and gives a slight wave in their direction.

Hi, new best friend. ]

How much money do you have?

[ Just... asking away. Why bother with introductions when there are more pressing matters at hand, such as tasty treats to stave off the hunger pains? ]

III. CUSTOMIZE TO YOUR HEART'S CONTENT.

[ Time loops?? It gets WORSE, for real. Lucas deadeyes one of the shopkeepers he had terrorized only a week before, and the man cheerfully greets him in return. He can feel the twitch of annoyance under his eye as the same dialogue from a week ago is repeated back to him, and Lucas rudely waves off the rest of the greeting.

He turns on his heel and stalks away from the shop, headed deeper into the city. So this is the problem they were brought here to deal with. At least he has more of an idea now.

He'll stop in his tracks after coming across another figure, one that doesn't match up with the rest of the scene from a week prior. ]

That wasn't there before.

[ "That"... okay. That's a whole ass person, Lucas. He'll call out to them, though. ]

[ on one hand, the concept of isekai isn't a strange concept to figaro, but this is the first time he's whisked away to a world unlike his own... or is it? the city of mondstadt almost resembles central country, except the part where it's all walled inside what seems to be a fortress?

interesting. perhaps he could get a better look from the sky? so he holds out his hand to summon his broomstick -- only to come up with nothing.

he blinks, and tries again... nada. he tries to summon his orb, to no avail. all he can come up with upon searching himself is a curious aqua trinket dangling on his hip. ]

...Interesting. [ he'll wave at anyone who has a vision on their person to catch their attention. ] Any idea what these are? I can't seem to access my powers like I used to.

ii.

[ upon hearing that mondstadt is the city of wine and song, figaro's immediately zooming in to one of the taverns available because of fucking course. he's standing in front of Angel's Share, ruminating over the list of food and wine written on the chalkboard. ]

I haven't heard of most of these before, to be honest. [ he smiles. ] Any recommendations? If not, we can just get one of everything.

[ nothing like visiting an entirely new place and raiding their wine closet. it doesn't matter if he happens to talk to a minor either - he'll probably just treat them with grape juice. ]

iii.

[ venturing outside the walled city should be no problem if one were to bring figaro with them on the journey. his healing powers may not be as effective as before, but he can still patch up anyone with his ice magic regardless. it's like trying on a different pair of pants that needs some time to get used to, is all.

so it's of short miracle that he and his companion were able to reach Cape Oath in one piece. figaro walks toward one of the cliffs that overlook the sea and takes in the beautiful view, stretching his arms and breathing in the fresh, dandelion-tinted air. ]

Ahh, the view here's spectacular. Come take a look! [ never mind the fact that they might fall? figaro doesn't look like he's scared with that easygoing smile though. ] No wonder those lovers made a promise here with the ocean as a backdrop. I'm almost jealous.

[ hm.

well anyway. hopefully the hilichurl camp nearby isn't enough to ruin the view and the melancholy(?) mood. ]

[ gathering chicken shouldn't be too hard. figaro has done little odd jobs like this back at southern country, where humans would ask the wizards for mundane help. so on one hand he already feels at home with this simple commission.

the problem, however, is getting them to trust him. somehow the chickens knew that he's up to no good? and they seem to flock over towards sandalphon instead. ]

Ahaha. Looks like they've taken a liking to you already.

[a man must eat—and thanks to these commissions, a man finally has the means (re: the mora) to do so. nice! catch felix sitting at one of the tables outside good hunter—the one tucked away in the corner, naturally—with his hunting dagger in hand. cleaning one's weapon at the dinner table is probably, like, very rude, but felix neither notices nor cares; he's busily swiping a bit of oil down this blade, tuning out the world at large as he waits for his food to arrive. feel free to fuss!

and also feel free to join him at this table, because my, but good hunter certainly is crowded! sara is sure to direct anyone waiting for a seat to the empty one directly across from felix—and anyone who sits there will receive one (1) look and one (1) huff before felix turns his attention back to the task at hand. a master conversationalist he is not...

...and it's fine, right? because sara comes breezing past the table soon enough, dropping a plate before felix and telling him to please enjoy everyone's favorite mondstadt meal(tm)! maybe your food arrives, as well—or maybe you're left enviously staring at felix's food, which is why the irritated click of his tongue probably catches you by surprise.]

This is the specialty?

[it's meat, but, like? covered in some kind of sugary sauce?? he is highly offended, hence the way he glares down at this tasty-looking thing while poking it with his fork. a beat; a tightening of his jaw, then, before he simply......... slides the plate right across the table.]

ii. this bard has played what's new pussycat 21 times in a row

[are you wandering about the streets at this (not so) late hour, enjoying the dulcet tones of mondstadt's many bards? maybe you stop to enjoy the performance of one bard in particular, who is currently standing on a street corner, singing about a very, very cute... cat. or something. what matters is that the tune is quite catchy, and the wine-emboldened bard is really belting these lyrics out. a true sight to behold.

so maybe it shouldn't be a surprise when shutters are thrown open somewhere above you? when someone leans right out of the window, their scowl somehow visible even in this dim light. some people! are trying to sleep! because some people wake up at unreasonably early hours! and by "some people" i mean "felix," naturally, so—]

Listen, idiot, I told you to keep it down—

(Time resets, the windmill is broken, the weeds they’d pulled up are back, and not a person seems to notice a difference. Tsurumaru returns to the fountain, the place where everything began (for him, at least). He’d spent much of the previous week pranking people and having fun but today, he seems… a little more focused?

The girl selling flowers drops her bouquet again when a mercenary bumps into her. Someone lets out a frustrated gasp when they realize they were sitting with their robe in the fountain behind them the entire time. It’s really the exact same thing as the week before, isn’t it? But there are some things that are different. There are fewer people here than the first time he was here. He wonders if those people have wandered off to find answers somewhere else or if they’ve noticed at all. But when one of the other Travelers arrives, Tsurumaru calls out,)

I - arrival
[When his eyes blink open and his vision finally clears, there's a solid couple of seconds for which Rean's not wholly sure he's not still dreaming. But eventually, he concludes that the sensations he's experiencing — the sounds of the fountain, the feeling of the key between his fingers — are all too intense, too real, to be anything but reality.

So, naturally, the next step is to go from blinking the sleep out of his eyes to wondering just what in the actual hell is going on, not without some levels of panic. While Mondstadt doesn't look too different from the towns he's seen in his travels, it's certainly not the Thors Branch Academy, which means there is a problem.

He can't let that panic control him for long, though, so after tucking the key into the pocket of his coat, he sets off to explore the city. He tries to talk with a couple of people he manages to catch in a free moment to establish where he is, but his attention is really grabbed when he sees someone who looks just as confused as he is.

He makes a beeline over to whoever he manages to catch, waving them down. His words are a bit uncertain as he starts, and his voice starts off the sentence higher than it ends — it definitely sounds like he's trying to make himself sound more in control of this situation than he is.]

Excuse me, sorry to bother you — by any chance, are you, ah... not from around here?

[How do you ask someone "hey did you show up from another world too?" Rean doesn't know, but he has to try.]


II - the outside at night
[After a couple of days have passed, Rean's not comfortable but he's at least trying to find a way to make do. Even so, he can't find it in himself to rest. When he's not trying to take up odd jobs around the city — more for the comfort of throwing himself into something and making himself useful than for the mora it earns him, although he can't complain about the rewards — he's almost constantly on patrol, wandering restlessly through the streets.

Tonight, his meandering has led him to the outskirts of the city, and curiosity has led him to wander just beyond the city walls. Even here isn't particularly unfamiliar, the landscape reminiscent of one of the highways he's come to know back home. If he takes a deep breath, he can even try to pretend that it's just another Erebonian highway, one he's yet to explore.

It seems like that's what he's trying to do, trying to even out his breathing and just look up at the stars. Still, he'll whirl around the minute he senses someone nearby, visibly on alert.

After taking a moment to try to calm himself again, he'll speak up.]

[Surprising no one that knows her, Rose's first stop at night is the tavern. Part of her is still suspicious that something is wrong, but it's outweighed by the fact that she's glad to be free of danger. She has a rather large pint in front of her, and is feeling uncharacteristically cordial.]

You know, I think this is the first time I haven't been upset to be whisked away from home. This place certainly has its charms.

[New Powers]

[As happy as she is in the moment, Rose is upset to find that she no longer has access to her White Magic. It doesn't take her long to find that, while she can still cast something resembling Aero, it's the only thing she can do.]

[She sets up camp on the outskirts of town, trying her new powers against the slimes in the area. Right now, all she can do is create a small gust, but it's enough to kill the slimes after a spell. That is, until she bites off a bit more than she can chew.]

[New Powers Part 2 - Healing Boogaloo]

[After an unfortunate encounter, Rose comes to the realization that her new powers can also heal. It's not as powerful as her healing magic back home, but it's more than enough to patch up small wounds.]

II. ANYWAY, HERE'S WONDERWALL

[ here's the scene: it's evening. you're tired. it's been a long day. maybe you got accosted by some strange creatures you're not used to while out in the wilderness. maybe you've been trying to get the lay of the land and been on your feet far too long. maybe you're not tired at all and just want a drink - whatever the case may be, your feet have taken you near the tavern, where a bard is sitting outside, plucking at his strings and bleating his precious little bard heart out.

and there is Hwi on the other side of the street, arms crossed over his chest, and staring holes through this bard's head. through his very soul. his children have to be shivering in their little booties for feeling this look passing through his ancestral line. if looks could kill...

...either he's contemplating murdering this man and sticking the harp where the sun doesn't shine, or -- well. is there really any other option? would you dare talk a man down from the ledge of musical murder...?! ]

[ It has been a few days since the outlanders appeared in Mondstadt, and Zhongli has been passively keeping count of how many of them there were. In his attempt at keeping a census, he had found out that one of Seonho's friends also arrived here. While their friendship may be a little on the complex side, Zhongli strives to treat Hwi as how he would anyone else.

There's not much he can do in his limited state, though. With his divine powers locked away, he's forced to approach everything as a mortal would. And that includes... money.

Money is a problem. However, that problem is solved for the day by him taking up a commission to cook at Good Hunter. While Zhongli is slow, he's very meticulous - meal prep is done to perfection, with the ingredients cut carefully and arranged artistically before it's served. Sara can put up with this, once she's gotten some younger folks on the more urgent orders.

It's probably dinnertime when Hwi returns from his commission duty for the day. Zhongli sees him walking by Good Hunter and looking wistfully inside... which means he has to step outside the kitchen for a moment. ]

Good evening, [ he says calmly, the impeccable image of a wise old man. ] come in and have a seat.

[ shortly after arrival, this girl is bouncing all over town, exploring their new surroundings. somehow, she doesn’t seem too bothered to find herself in a new world, but she does stare a little too long at the townsfolk working the shops and going about their daily lives. how strange, to see people going about the setting like they belong here. and maybe they do belong. maybe they mean no harm at all, but there’s still a part of her wondering when things will start to go wrong.

still, ochako smiles at them all, travelers and townsfolk alike, easily boxing up her unease and setting it aside as she weaves throughout the city. It’s not until she reaches the cathedral that she really stops, staring up at the anemo archon statue in awe. ]

It’s huge! I didn’t know they made statues this big! [ whether or not anyone answers, she’s turning to the closest person with a grin. ] So I heard there’s a way to get up there and sit at the top of it. They didn’t say how, though… Think we can figure it out?

[ might as well have some fine before it all goes south, right? ]

[ late at night, when the skies are clear, you might find yourself wandering through town, working your way back home or maybe out to a restaurant or bar. pass by the fountain, and you’ll hear a cheerful voice calling down to you: ]

[ follow the voice, and you’ll find ochako smiling down at you, having placed herself on the ledge overlooking the fountain. her legs kick back and forth, perhaps a habit, or maybe to relieve herself of some nervous energy. who could say! ]

[ head outside mondstadt, and you’ll find her not far from the city’s borders! she’s taken care to break away from the paths so as not to hit anyone, because… she seems to be throwing rocks around? and muttering under her breath. ]

It can’t be that hard to get used to, right? Magic can’t be that hard to figure out, can it?

[ look closer, and you’ll see she isn’t throwing the rocks by hand, and the vision on her belt is beginning to glow a little. ochako seems to be too focused to notice, though - either her vision, or the slime sneaking up on her. lend a hand, maybe? ]

Whether it's a stumble or a fall, at least Serpico's quick to look over at the sound of any movement, looking just a little startled. ]

[ Well. It's really starting to sink in that he's stuck in this bright, lovely, idyllic place. All sunny and peaceful, where the air is fresh and clean and the people seem happy. ... and it's strangely discomforting.

Sitting at the edge of the lovely, bubbling fountain, Serpico tries very hard not to think about what could be going wrong back at the Tower of Conviction. How is Farnese faring without him? And while it's not like he really has much faith in the others of the Holy Iron Chain Knights, maybe they can at least be trusted to keep their own commander relatively safe in that stronghold. Probably. Maybe. ... hopefully.

He's been staring dumbly at the bards for the past few minutes while mulling over those thoughts, taking in their fanciful performance -- the harmony between those instruments and voices is admittedly quite nice -- and as they finish their song, he gives a polite round of applause.

It takes him far too long to realize that one of the young men who'd been singing along, who now wanders a short way away from the rest of the performers, isn't actually a member of their troupe. ]

Were you only participating as an audience? [ A curious tilt of the head as he ventures that question towards Rutile, conversational and light. Might as well get acquainted with some of the people here, and he imagines someone so willing to sing along with street performers will be easy enough to get along with. ] That was quite the performance, regardless.

I. Exploring

[Waking up in an entirely different world was not really in Elliot's plans. It caused him quite a panic, making him internally scream for a bit before he collected himself and started to get the lay of the land. Luckily, he was able to find Rean here too, which sure did wonders to help his constant anxiety.

So once he was a little more settled in, he went to explore. As much as he didn't liked being whisked away from home, it wasn't every day a Zemurian got to see another world! And even better, it was a world that clearly loved music! He could work with this.

And one way to do that? Is to get to know the people in the same situation. When he sees a person in attire different from the locals? He's approaching.]

Hey, you're from a different world too, right?

II. Vision Practice

[Elliot's only real means of defending himself was his magic. So losing his magic entirely? That was bad. But Elliot wasn't content to lie down and die like his anxiety wanted, so it meant he had to work hard to master this Vision.

So he can be found outside the gates of the city, attempting to summon the power of his Vision via wind gusts. It's a struggle, but he's very persistent as he keeps at it. Eventually, he's blowing the seeds off the dandelion puffs with some level of precision]

Ehe, think I'm getting the hang of it! If only Gaius could see this.

III. Music is the Victim

[Staying in the city of song was both a blessing and a curse for a musician. A blessing because there was a love for music everywhere you went, but a curse because it meant lot of competition to fight against if he wanted to get anywhere. But that's not wasn't going to stop Elliot.

The first couple days, he can be found near the bards- observing them and their style. He listens carefully, making notes to the style and types of songs they play here. Sometimes he'll turn and ask a person near him:]

What do you think of them?

[After those first few days, he steps up his game and offers himself as an violin accompaniment for the bards. He smiles and acts modestly, letting the bards egos work against them as they assume he's no threat. Just a curiosity with his foreign instrument that wants to see if he can translate their work onto his strings.

Though if anyone is watching closely, they might notice that this mere accompaniment? Clearly hosts much more talent than some of the people he's accompanying. He's not a nobody that can't do solo acts, he has a plan. He's spending this time mastering the style and melodies, learning the special spots.

And by the end of the first week and later on? He can be found performing by himself around the city- with renditions of classic Mondstat songs along with songs of his own. His talent and new style is doing well to attract crowds.

If you want to talk to him, you can easily find him between sets tending to his instrument or gathering the coin he made.]

[This has happened before in some sense. After a strange dream from a being of higher power, Takame awoke to find himself in an unfamiliar land. Unlike his awakening to the Echo and Hydaelyn, however, he didn’t find himself in a very obvious dream sequence of floating crystals in aetherial space. No, he’s somehow… in front of a fountain? In a place that is very much not Gyr Abaina or the Crystarium, it was too verdant to be either. Was this part of Elidibus’ plan? Has he the power to do such a thing? Impossible, only the Exarch...

Perhaps out of habit his hand went right for his sword’s hilt, only for it to bump against something else unfamiliar hooked onto his belt. Some sort of charm? Red-orange and painted with a symbol… of flame.

His panic shows subtly in the way his tail flicked, his brow furrowed and his posture tensed severely, but running further into the town he found more people, one of which he’ll approach without any preamble and start questioning, his tone rather accusatory.]

[There's an ice blue charm on his hip and Valvatorez knows absolutely nothing about the thing. When he's approached near the general goods store, he puts a hand on his hip and considers the way this stranger is speaking to him.]

I take it you're a fellow displaced person? It seems to be some sort of quaint human town. The name seems to be Mondstadt. [He says it like it is a completely foreign word to him.]

[The feel of mana under his feet isn't strange. But the strength of it, the smell of the air, the sight of a blue sky and bustling streets and the hints of green over those stone walls are enough to make one young man think he might truly be dead. It might explain why he looks a little shellshocked when he first arrives, looking back at the fountain with an almost numb expression, dark eyes drifting up to the crowds. But reality starts to settle too fast, too quick, and his handless left arm is pulled against his body as his right shoves his collar up and tightens the ties, a barebones attempt to cover his face as he immediately marches as far away from oncoming eyes as he can.

That was weird!

Through most parts of the week, the lithe, scarred redhead can be found mostly avoiding buildings, taking back alleys and only stop to take his time when he believes no one is watching him. Any time one catches him outside of the city gates, it's always under the cover of a tree, heavily distracted as though the very grass under his feet is something unusual and bittersweet. There's a hand pistol on display against his left hip, and if he feels he's being watched, his reflexes will prove to be very fast, and his behavior immediately on a suspicious level of alert.

[What's a house? Don't know her. A key with his name just screams of a trap, so someone definitely isn't sleeping like a civilized person. Or eating. It's almost like watching a cat crawl out of a space it shouldn't fit, seeing him slide out from the nooks of a building or dropping out of a tree at odd hours of the evening. More than once, one can catch him curled up in the shadows of some of the architecture, whittling something.... odd.... in his lap with the edge of a black-bladed knife... before promptly breaking off a piece and popping it into his mouth. Is... that mold shavings on the ground? Was that even edible? Well, he's making it edible, even if it just came from the grass or out of someone's trash.

If someone bothers to stop and watch him make questionable food choices, his hands will halt immediately, gaze falling cold as his chin lifts. The knife still in hand, he'll shove his collar up again before continuing with what he was doing.]

[On Tuesday and Friday, the air is nice and humid with the calling of the oncoming rains. It's pleasant! Not too heavy, and the plants seem to be happy.

So why has this guy shoved himself into one of the bars and vividly refuses to leave? Weird.

You might catch him early enough in the morning when the clouds have only started to roll in, eyes a little too wide as he looks for somewhere to hide like he's being chased by something unseen. Or perhaps you're in the bar, just getting ready to leave and trek through the rain that's just started up with a steady patter out onto the rock, only to feel an unfamiliar hand against your arm that jostles you away from the door, words hissed out from behind his teeth like whatever you're about to talk about is some sort of hidden taboo.]

He leaps down from where he'd perched on the terrace ledge, landing improbably lightly on his feet. ]

[ He drifts over, twirling around you a few times with sharp, curious eyes. Perhaps it feels a bit like being a bug under a magnifying lens. He comes to a stop in front of you, grinning. ]

And from far away, it seems. Come, why don't we walk -- you can tell me all about where you came from and I can show you all the best parts of Mondstadt! It will be a proper cultural exchange.

ii. anyway here's wonderwall

[ It's not that Mondstadt is a city that never sleeps -- ironically, it's a bit too sleepy for that -- but it certainly does stay up late, celebrating the day spent and anticipating what's to come next. That's just how it is in the City of Freedom.

If you find yourself in one of Mondstadt's many taverns, it's no surprise that each one is lively to the point of raucous. Knights and Adventurers alike gather to drink and jeer at the bards who fill the establishments with music. This bard in particular differs ever-so-slightly from the rest, though -- the tunes he plays are less tavern song and more ancient storytelling, songs of the Archons and Celestia and the magic that makes up the world. And it seems the more he plays, the more the tavern-goers seem to be slipping him drinks.

How many drinks has it been since you've been standing here? Six . . . ? More?

Well -- at any rate, he eventually takes up a perch nearby, fingers idly strumming his lyre strings. They glow with an Anemo-blue light. ]

Do you have any requests? Ehe, I only charge one drink! That's a steal!

[ Mondstadt has many things -- flowers, taverns, bards, windmills . . . and also stray cats. Some of them are even bartenders, if you go into the right tavern!

Ah, but maybe that's just a pointless anecdote. As you stroll through the streets, you may find a small, green-clad figure crouched behind a fruit stall, looking around nervously. Like he's being stalked, perhaps? This seems like excellent work for a Knight or Adventurer--

Except he starts when he spots you staring and immediately starts shushing. ]

[ Venti finds Zhongli standing underneath the great tree at Windrise, his eyes closed in meditation. The thought occured to him that he might attempt to restore his own power like how Venti did, but a cursory attempt showed him that it was no use. Either the Anemo energy refused to respond to him, or that the black seal cut him off from the rest of Teyvat. It would be a lie to say that he was completely unbothered, but... he has time to figure this out, at least.

When the Anemo Archon appears next to him, Zhongli lets out a long sigh. ]

[ pov: you're one of faerghus' top generals, you just won a war that spanned like five years, and you may or may not have killed some of your former classmates because of it and now you find yourself in a brand new world with no recollection of how you got there. like, sylvain vaguely recalls a dream? sort of. mostly he was just looking forward to getting a drink and sitting down to just chill for a while? maybe think about going back home to gautier? a bitch is tired, alright. but to say he expected to be whisked off to goddess knows where would be a lie.

so, here he is, still clad in his armor, kind of looking like he just walked off the battlefield, which... maybe. there's likely dried blood and other gross stuff on his armor but at least he doesn't look too badly injured? he takes a good moment just turning around in place, staring at his surroundings before he groans suddenly, shoulders slumping before he literally falls on one knee in the middle of the road. ]

[there's a wedding!!!!! a small one at an outdoors venue near the Church of Favonius. Seonho is obviously not invited, but nothing's stopping him from taking a seat some ways off, his gaze riveted on the cluster of people laughing and cheering -- at the bride whose hand is lovingly clasped in her partner's.

how strange. Seonho's experienced so much culture shock so far, but this one silences him in a way everything else hasn't. he's not used to so much happiness -- and he's never been to a wedding where the ones marrying actually look like they love each other. there's something pensive and sad in his expression, despite the joyous melody the bards nearby are playing.

[ from her arrival at the fountain (which might’ve turned into an attraction) to day two, pieck uses such a time for collection, reevaluation and integration; answers wouldn’t come as readily as anyone would like, but they had to make do with the available resources. this world was far from the dangerous grasp of the rumbling and not a soul knew what she was on sight or where she came from when given a true description— ah, and she has shrunken to the size of a grand racehorse! how odd. odder was being unable to eject from the cart at will (which wasn’t exactly a problem when it came to staying in, but still, a problem). there was no one here she recognized. stay calm, gather as much as possible and maybe blend in (???). but one thing was certain to her as the days went by and the week looped back to the tenth: either this is quite the elaborate dream, or maybe interdimensional travel should be considered. how? she’ll find out. going back home? that, too. maybe paths just wasn’t the only one, and not the only timeless space either. the universe is much larger than what their grain brains could imagine. as far fetched as it was, it was a theory that made the most sense.

anyway— down to what matters. visions. tapping into her’s would bring the breeze to her fingertips; anemo is what it’s called. travelers born in this town or from far away as she was would be able to find pieck at a comfortable grassy field just outside of teyvat. better to practice with. no one was born knowing, after all, and if it’s something of use— oh, she’ll definitely be a star pupil in a clip of time. there was just practice and blunders to get there, many of which are prone to go completely haywire at one point or another. be it shock that one of these horses is not like the others or her test run going unstable, you are probably in the wrong place at the wrong time.



she starts “small” and takes stray falling leaves as her first few targets, but feeling a short span of confidence in getting a leaf or two to hover has pieck going a little further in whipping up thicker breezes eventually— said breezes twist into little gusts, swirling a pile of autumn leaves into a wind funnel right for who’s too in the way to avoid it. the problem with this funnel is that not only leaves have gotten caught in it: there’re nuts and pine cones that pelt, berries that splat, and if you’re truly unlucky . . . animal 💩

luckily, beyond that, it’s not at all hazardous. getting caught in the storm is what quickly gets it to dissipate before worse can happen, while the now two meter titan, with a metallic, deep resounding voice: ]

I. Fishing

[It's not like this guy really needs a lot of food, or really needs to buy anything. Especially because he's sure he found a whole bunch of fish in the lake. He can't be certain they're sardines- in fact most of them seem far too large to be his favorite fish- but he hasn't gotten a real job and he's hungry.

Tragically what he doesn't know is he can't breathe underwater anymore. There's some splashing, some startled noises, and he comes back up to shore looking like a drowned bat.]

II. Fishing part 2

[The thing on his hip is called a Vison. A sign of favor from the Gods- He doesn't need outside help to strengthen himself, but ever since arriving, it seems his usual powers are lost to him.

And damnit, he wants fish.

He holds it in his hands and does his best to freeze over a section of the lake.
