May Mingle: Entombed City
Welcome to Teyvat - a vast magical world of adventure.
Everyone's hard work resulted in the gate to upper Dragonspine opening. These ruins have not been traversed in years, if not centuries - everything within has been lost to time and living memory. An entire city has been buried in the snow.

People once lived there. The broken buildings host damaged furniture and weathered streets. There are various cloth-covered mounds in a house here and there, accompanied by a sprig of blue flowers. Someone has laid these people to rest after they passed away.

Traces of technology can be found in the city - golden boxes that contain crystals capable of recording and playing back holograms. One of the boxes introduces this place as Vindagnyr; a land once full of greenery and life. Just what happened to these people? What caused the eternal winter?

The highest point in the city is occupied by a temple built into a Domain. Within the Domain is a pale white tree, split in half by a strange object that has fallen through the Domain's ceiling. This temple was once a site for worship for Vindagnyr's people, and even in death they continue to pray for salvation. The priests have been frozen in ice, and the sheer cold emanating from the Skyfrost Nail makes it obvious that it is the cause of winter.

The city's inhabitants worshipped Celestia. Why then were they left to die?

State of the World

On October 1st, the entombed city of Vindagnyr becomes open for exploration. Travelers can choose to look for clues or try to scavenge the city for ancient materials or tools. Recording boxes all around the city tell stories of Vindagnyr's greener past, and of the days when winter suddenly arrived. This is the cruelty of Celestia that Forneus wished you to see.

[Elliot pauses briefly at the question, because Roxas sure looks old enough to understand the meaning of doing that for the dead. But...hey, you know. He knows two preteen looking girls who were actually test tube babies - so maybe he shouldn't assume!

So he'll just gently explain]

It's when you do something to honor the spirits of the dead, and show that you care.

[Must be something some worlds did, but not others. Or maybe Sora hadn't ever really come across too much personal loss in his life that that funerals were a thing.]

Oh. So just getting flowers will do that? Like those around the bodies already?

[fiddlestick]

[Yeah Sora was too busy making business for funeral homes rather than attending them.

Elliot nods ]

Yeah, that's the custom where I'm from. But I'm not sure where to find flowers in a place like this...

[At least Sora was helping keep someone in a job?

Roxas looks around and sees the flowers by the bodies. Had he seen any outside?]

I think we would need to leave this place and look for them. I don't think anything grows in here with this cold.

[fiddlestick]

[Elliot lets out a disappointed sound]

Yeah...you're probably right.

We'll have to wait to do that, I suppose. It's too dangerous to wander this mountain alone.

[And Elliot would rather not join these frozen bodies thank you very much]

I don't mind going out and looking for them.

[Reckless. Plain reckless.]

If anything, I can just run if I can't fight.

[fiddlestick]

[ Oh no. It's another reckless one.]

Thank you, but it's not the monsters I'm worried about.

With weather this cold, a person could freeze to death if they're out too long. Or you might slip on some ice or get caught in a storm.

It's just not safe.

[Roxas opens his mouth, then closes it.

Remembering that he's a very plain human with this vision thing.]

... I guess being a cryo user is not going to keep me from freezing to death.

[fiddlestick]

[Despite the situation, Elliot can't help but laugh gently]

Eheh, afraid not.

I appreciate the offer though. We'll just wait until later for a chance. [He's even smiling a little!] I'm Elliot, what's your name?

[missingache]

[Later? Oh yeah, there is a place off of this mountain. Somewhere. But how would they get the flowers back up here without freezing?]

I'm Roxas. Have you been here long?

[fiddlestick]

[He gives a nod at the name. He'd say nice to meet you but...you know, these circumstances suck]

Yes. A few months, I think? Time got a little wonky for awhile, so it's hard to say exactly how long..

[missingache]

Months? [Oh boy that doesn't sound too promising.] I thought it would just be a short thing to help Forneus. But if you've been here for months...

[fiddlestick]

Yeah, this isn't going to be solved in a weekend, I'm afraid.

[or a couple weekends. Basically get comfortable roxas]

I wouldn't worry though. My friend came from an earlier point of time than me, and I don't remember him going missing back home ... so I'm sure when we go back, it'll be around the time we left.

[missingache]

Maybe. [That would be convenient.] I've been gone over four months already.

[fiddlestick]

You have?

[Oof. That's a familiar story.]

I'm sorry to hear that. Do you miss home?

[missingache]

I do. But I miss my friends more... if they were here, it'd be a lot easier.

[fiddlestick]

[He nods empathetically]

I know what you mean. I have one friend here, but I miss everyone else.

What're your friends like?

[missingache]

That's lucky.

[Oh boy. Be prepared!]

They're great! Xion and Lea are my best friends. Then there's Isa, Pence, Olette, and Hayner. We all live in the same town and spend a lot of time together. Namine visits when she can, and she's super good at art. [Which is objective.] The last place I was in, Sora was there. Sora is... he has to be my favorite person. I miss him a lot, and I hope he got to go home.

[fiddlestick]

[oh no, this is really cute. And honestly, just hearing this kid talk so happily about his friends is a nice distraction from the horror of this town]

Haha, wow, you got a lot friends! That's lucky too! [Good. People have friends. But "favorite person", huh?] Was this Sora with you where you were before?

[missingache]

[Doesn't everyone have a favorite person??]

Yeah! It was great. We did a lot of stuff together. And... [He sighs softly.] It feels complicated? I don't know how to describe it fully, but as happy as I am he's not here, it'd be nice if he was. Doesn't everyone have someone like that?

[fiddlestick]

[And the adorable continues. He smiles]

Oh, I think you get what you mean! That's Rean for me. I worry about him, especially when he gets reckless, but I do feel better whenever he's around. Like things are just a little brighter, you know?

[missingache]

Yeah! Sora is a lot like sunshine. Though I think he might get embarrassed if someone calls him that.

[Who wouldn't want to be called sunshine, though.]

[fiddlestick]

Haha, well it is a little cheesy. Teenage guys can get a little sensitive about that stuff.

[Which he is assuming this Sora guy is, considering Roxas's age]

Sora can be super cheesy. He should be used to it! Next time I see him I'll call him sunshine and see what he does. Which better be when we're both home again.

[Elliot chuckles.]

Now that's one way to welcome someone home! I'm sure it'll be quite the reaction.
