May Mingle: Entombed City
Welcome to Teyvat - a vast magical world of adventure.
Everyone's hard work resulted in the gate to upper Dragonspine opening. These ruins have not been traversed in years, if not centuries - everything within has been lost to time and living memory. An entire city has been buried in the snow.

People once lived there. The broken buildings host damaged furniture and weathered streets. There are various cloth-covered mounds in a house here and there, accompanied by a sprig of blue flowers. Someone has laid these people to rest after they passed away.

Traces of technology can be found in the city - golden boxes that contain crystals capable of recording and playing back holograms. One of the boxes introduces this place as Vindagnyr; a land once full of greenery and life. Just what happened to these people? What caused the eternal winter?

The highest point in the city is occupied by a temple built into a Domain. Within the Domain is a pale white tree, split in half by a strange object that has fallen through the Domain's ceiling. This temple was once a site for worship for Vindagnyr's people, and even in death they continue to pray for salvation. The priests have been frozen in ice, and the sheer cold emanating from the Skyfrost Nail makes it obvious that it is the cause of winter.

The city's inhabitants worshipped Celestia. Why then were they left to die?

State of the World

On October 1st, the entombed city of Vindagnyr becomes open for exploration. Travelers can choose to look for clues or try to scavenge the city for ancient materials or tools. Recording boxes all around the city tell stories of Vindagnyr's greener past, and of the days when winter suddenly arrived. This is the cruelty of Celestia that Forneus wished you to see.

Becoming a god because you're bored sounds like a bit of a jump. Though I guess taking up something like knitting wasn't plausible.

[ Forneus laughs, a bright clipped sound like a chime. ]

When you've lived and seen so much, nothing's really interesting anymore.

[The laugh gets a blink, before she quietly chuckles alongside him.]

What if I dared you to knit a snuggie? Though that might be super frustrating rather than interesting.

[But it would be funny to watch, at least.]

Then what were you doing before that? Just... existing? Floating around?

A snuggie...

[ Is he really considering it? ]

I was traveling between worlds. Just sightseeing, stuff like that. I didn't see the need to interfere.

[Wait is he really...]

[Will she regret bringing it up? Not in the slightest.]

Hmm... Well, if you were just a tourist there wouldn't have been any need to. Though what was one of the more interesting worlds you saw?

There were worlds populated by four-legged elephants with diamond torsos living symbiotically with trees that produce wheel fruit for them to travel with. There were worlds devoid of all life save for large ossified stars that roll across the dunes in an endless migration. Fact is often stranger than fiction.

[That... really is strange, and it makes her chuckle under her breath for a moment.]

There really is all sorts... But you're right about that. My friends and I recently found out about this old, observing alien race which is also the origin of my friends weapon. All big sci-fi stuff, but it's really happening.

They kind of keep away from me though. Figures they might not want me to pierce their secrets.

The Grigori? Yeah, they're really secretive and shit. Figures they wouldn't like you much... I'm guessing they're one of the dimensional types if you know them.

[Which makes sense for a race that observes everything. Though her words trail off as she frowns, humming under her breath for a moment.]

Though one of them we met, I think they had a few screws loose. They didn't mind telling us... Well, a lot of things. I don't trust them.

You shouldn't trust them. To be fair, you shouldn't trust me either. At least, according to common sense.

[ For every being that lives, there's bound to be someone above them. It goes up like a never ending chain of world-bearing elephants. ]

[Though what would be above Forneus might be branching into cosmic eldritch hellscapes...]

If it's any help, I don't really trust you at all. I just find you interesting.

It's not everyday I can talk to a time god about what he was doing before and also dare him to knit snuggies.

Haha. Well, better to enjoy your time here than be trapped in a job you don't like doing.

If I get to take down gods eventually, I don't really care what I need to do. Mostly I just miss my friends.

Though when you took this role, did you know Celestia was... like this?

Eh, nah. I was going to see if they could raise a world properly. Though I'd fail them on that assessment right now.

Oh, good. And yeah, it seems like a massive failure.

[To say it nicely. But thinking about gods and Celestia...]

Though I have a thought... Zhongli seems to be trying to live as a mortal now. Have you ever tried anything like that?

I've been hiding as a mortal for uncountable years on other worlds. It's gotten a bit boring.

So you've really done all sorts...

But aren't there any others, like you? I mean from the same... whatever it is, from before time?

We're kind of solitary when it comes to our own kind. It's a big universe out there, and there's only so many of us, so it's probably aeons before we pass by one another.

Huh, that sounds kinda lonely.

[But he said before he was too busy to be lonely, so...]

Do all of your kind travel through worlds, then?

I can only really answer for myself. I haven't seen hide or hair of a relative in, well, a really long time.

[ Waves a hand ]

Anyways, you'll probably never meet another of us other than me. So don't worry too much about it.

I'm not really worried, I'm just curious. I would just hope they aren't are vague as you, anyway.

... And you wouldn't want to go back to your world, when all is said and done here?

I can't. My homeworld ceased to exist.
